Hello Ladies,
My daughter has had a rough two years on and off. It has always been something. But one thing that has always been in the back ground of everything is her size. Well now that she is two and she has had yet again another dip in growth they are sending her to an endroconologist to see if she has a hormone growth deficiency. I was just wondering if anyone has a child with this or know of anyone else who does? What to expect once we get there? How long does the testing take. Well just general info. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks have a good one, J.

So What Happened?

I just wanted to thank everyone for your responses that meant alot. My little Livy was one of two, my other little one did not make it. As if that was not tramatic enough she has had a series of lung issues and also some problems with digestion. Along with a few other problems that may not seem all that severe but it still takes a toll on all parties invovled. She has been a human guinea pig as far as testing trying to figure out what keeps causing a lot of her issues. Now that she is finally to the point to where we don't worry so much about her. Her size keeps coming up. She is over two years old and weighs 19 pounds and is only 31 inches tall. I have two other kids one who is extremely tall for his age and my other daughter who is of average height for her age. I am 5'5 1/2 and my husband is 6'. There are no short people in the family on either side. We always blamed the growth on her issues with her health but we are to the point now to where they no longer feel we can blame that. I dont know anymore. But I am not actually stressed out about it- this is a relief in comparison to the things they have felt was wrong with her in the past. Just thought I would go into more detail but thank everyone. I was just curious what to expect with this process now. But this seems very mild in comparison to everything else she has been through. So Thank you once again.

I also faced the dilema of putting my daughter on growth hormones. My daughter who is now 3 and 1/2 was born premature and is still not on a regular growth chart. I did decide to pusue the HGH's and it seems to have made a world of difference with her overall development. If you have any more specific questions, please ask.

Hello,

I just went through the same thing this past summer. My daughter is 2 also and at her 2 year check up in September she weighed only 21 lbs. We were sent to the endo last June and after a 2 hour wait all he did was look at her and say it must be genetic because my husband and I are on the smaller side?? They did no testing and she continued to grow, just at a very minute rate. She is only in the 1-3rd percentile but is a healthy little girl. I am going to have her checked again to be on the safe side because she is still only 21-22 lbs. So, I would at least have them do blood work and some testing to put your mind at rest. Best of luck to you.

J.,

I don't have any experience with growth hormones. I am not sure how petite your daughter is, but I am 32 and 4'10'' (almost). :-) My daughter is very little too. She barely made the 5th percentile at her last appointment. I never made the charts. My parents sent me to an endocronologist for years. They watched my growth to make sure I was hitting certain targets, but that was it. Other than being short, my daughter and I are perfectly normal. I guess I am writing to let you know that it is OK to be little. My daughter tells me all the time that she is the littlest in her class. I remind her that I am the littlest mom, then we talk about how special that makes us. ;-)

Hi J. -

Don't worry about it too much. My son had growth hormone injections for years. He is off of them and doing fine now. The doctor will most likely look at your family history (how big is everyone in the family), check her over and ask to see her again in 6 months to check her progress. That should be about it. At the most he may ask to do some blood work to check her hormone levels and thyroid function and possibly a bone age x-ray. When he gets those results you'll go from there. It's basically a hurry up and wait scenario. Don't stress over it. Someone has to be on the smaller end of the growth charts. :o)
