My 2 year old has had a hoarse voice for about 3 days now. Its gets a littl better and than gets worse again. I am not sure if this is just from him being outside more, or something else. Any one else has this happen? Any help or advice would be great. Thank you

I would push lots of fluids, keep the area moist. Humidifyer in bed room. Lot of quiet activities. If he doesn't have a fever wait a few more days to go to the doctor. It may even be allergies. Also one more big piece of advice POPCICLES! Fluid and treat in one, get the flavor ice kind in the plastic tube.

It doesn't hurt to see his doctor either if you're able to. That way they can see if there's some kind of infection in his throat or they can tell you to wait it out. I would say that it depends on how bad it is, how long it goes and how guilty you would feel if you don't take him in and it is some kind of infections. I'm the paranoid mommy who takes the baby in after 2 or 3 days of being sick (sometimes I even take my son in after he seems to start getting better).

Hi R.~
I haven't had that happen, but since I work in the med. field (there is a pediatrician in our practice), I thought I'd give you my 2 cents. One one hand, it seems like everyone is sick right now with a summer cold, my sons included, so it could just be a virus that will get better with some TLC from mommy! However, I'm sure your whole dilemma is b/c you don't want to ignore something if it's more serious. If it were my son, I'd boost his Vit C intake and wait it out (if he doesn't develop any more symptoms) for a few more days and see what happens, but check out his throat and see how it looks. Also, pay attention to any complaints...my 3 yr old told me for 2 days that his throat hurt, and then I noticed that he was pointing to his belly! :)

It could be due to alergies too. My daughter gets that way with hers but i get it from my sinuses. i do not have any known alergies because i have been tested for them but nothing. But my sinuses act up alot. I also found out when i did get my alergies checked that i have a small growth on my voice box. he noticed it cuz of my hoarse voice & wanted to check it out. that could be soemthing too. he told me that it is fine for now just try not to talk so much, yell or anything like that. he doesnt know that i have a daycare & when u have 6 kids talking sometimes u have to raise your voice for them to even hear its time for lunch. LOL. so that is not an option for me but i will have to go back & get checked again to see if it has grown or what. U may have to just get your child checked out by an allergy specialist. good luck.
