Hershey Park

My sister's boyfriend's company is having a company party at Hershey Park on July 17th. We live in MD, so it's about a 4 hour drive for us, but not horrible. They offered us to come with them. It's $40 for kids and $44 for adults, and that includes parking and food, plus the park. My daughter (8) will be going away with my parents on the 17th to Atlantic City for her birthday vacation. So it'd be me, the hubby, and our two boys (6 and 4). So...I feel bad about going there without her, but she'll be on vacation. Are there reasonably priced hotels around there? I'd probably want to stay one night. And is it a must do with little kids? We are doing Disney in September, so they are getting a good vacation, but I am trying to do little vacations with them too. Thoughts?

So What Happened?

We are going to skip :(. We are saving for Disney in September and I'd feel so bad taking the boys and not my daughter to a new place for them. So we will probably head to a beach that day since she will also be at a beach. And we are already in the process of planning a long weekend there - or even spring break next year - at Hershey.

Hershey Park is a fun place for kids. I was born and raised in Hershey, and had season passes to the park for years, so we did it quite a bit (plus living 5 minutes away helps!).

It isn't a "must do" with young kids, but they will enjoy it. There are tons of kid-friendly rides and lots of really great roller coasters (if you can get your sister and boyfriend to keep the kids to ride some). There is also a place right next to the park called Chocolate World where you can see how Hershey's Bars are made. It's free and you get chocolate at the end. You can take a trolley through town for a small fee, and with your park admission you get in to the zoo for free as well. It isn't the most amazing zoo ever, but it's a nice little place.

My son (almost 5) LOVES when we go back to Hershey to visit, and honestly, we will probably move back within the next year or two because it is such a nice, small town. As for places to stay, please PM with what you think is reasonable. There are some great places in town, but I know New Yorkers who think that $350 a night is reasonable, while others think its astronomical. Actually, feel free to PM me with any other questions you have...I kind of know the place well! ;)

P.S. If you have a free moment (and a little extra cash lying around) the Hotel Hershey has a world-renowned spa that is like no other! I highly suggest it.

I think there is a special buy so many days and get one free at Hershey Park hotels. Also, I think only four people are allowed in a room so don't feel bad your daughter can't make it . I haven't been there but my sister lives out east and her friends and family have been there and really like it. Samantha Brown did a special there once . maybe you can look it up. Have fun !

Definitely take the boys, they'll love it! The waterpark is really, really nice. The rest of the park is tons of fun too and the chocolate factory on your way out is surprisingly fun.

I've never stayed overnight so I can't comment on hotels but I know there are a bunch to choose from. And if you do decide to stay overnight, they have some great outlet shopping close by so it would be worth it to make a weekend out of it.

Have fun!!

I haven't been there with my kids yet, but I heard it was okay. We go to Dutch Wonderland which is right down the street from Hershey at least once a year and they love it. It really is built just for them. It is a lot cheaper than Hershey and there are almost no lines for the rides (just a thought). We stayed up there for a night once and I can't remember which major chain we stayed at but it was a bit pricey. Since it is in the middle of 2 theme parks I guess they get it though.
