Hepa Filters and Other Air Purifiers

First of all congrats on your first child! I am a older mom and had both children with some sort of allergies. My daughter was mold and son was cat big time.

There is a lot of confusion with air cleaners and air purification systems. With a Hepa you have to actually suck the air through the filter itself and you have to have one in each room because they do not affect a large area. The best way is read this file on all the pros and cons of the various types of air cleaners.

The 2nd link shows the cost comparison...on the cost comparison list you will find the retail cost...Shaklee works like a Sam's club..and you'd save another $100 bucks with a $20. membership. Filters are only about $60 bucks a year and you can cover 3000 sq feet. Machine will last at least 14 or more years!

PS You can actually purchase the machine and you have 60 days to try it out...and if it doesn't work you can return it for a full refund. Since it does not work like a HEPA it works best for the first week to turn you central air fan to on to just blow...to permeate the entire house. It needs to be set upon a central area in the home on a high enough area like book shelf for maximum effectiveness. And it is quite too...unlike a noisy HEPA

My husband bought all of those high priced Ionic Breeze machines because of his allergies. My Mom has been down the road with air machines that needed special filters. My husband's allergies are no better (he needs to see an Allergist, but refuses) for the money spent, and for the hassel of having those machines everywhere (ugh!!). My advice is 1) remove all carpeting, 2) vaccuum daily. We own a Rainbow which uses the water basin -- I LOVE IT! It's an extra step to prepare for vaccuuming, but is so worth it. The Rainbow/water basin system doesn't throw dust, hair, etc. into the air like a traditional vaccuum machine. Good luck, and happy gestating!!

I have one air purifier that is incredible good is from acompany call ecoquest, I have mine since 2001 because 2 member of my family have respiratory problems, but since we have it they don't have any problems, plus we don't used toxic producs, and you can buy only one ans will cover the all house. Is a bit of exensive but is worth the price. You don't have to buy filters. I have the catalog and I used to sell them. If you want I can give you more info. ____@____.com

As an airconditioning contractor for Ideal Air Services (see the add in the business section), my husband does not ever recommend any room air cleaners. Consumer reports rates all of them very low as well. For the cost of purchasing 2 room aircleaners you can have one whole house air cleaner that goes with the AC equipment. This will outperform a room filter anyway and will do the whole house. You can go to www.aprilaire.com if you would like to know more about it.

Since one of my daughters has several health complications including Chronic Lung Disease, we have either the Clean Air System or the Pure Air system (I can't remember which of the two) that goes through your entire A/C system, the UV light and the hospital Hepa filter in her room. It was installed by Source Refrigeration Systems. It has been well worth it! Our home air is as clean as hospital air--or better. :) (We have two dogs, too.)

Also, your A/C system will transfer the particles from the rest of the house to the other rooms so that's why killing the bad stuff before it has a chance to travel is great. You also might want to consider putting down wood flooring of some sort in that room.

I have 2 kids, and my daughter, who is 3 years old, has been stricken with horrible allergies. My husband started using those 3M filters last year, and I think they are much better! You have to change them frequently to make a real difference, though. (and that gets rather expensive)
