i'm curious as to if anyone else out there has suddenly had a major change in their cycle. the reason i'm asking is back in june i had my normal period at the begining of the month. then 19 days later i started again; just as if it were the 28-30 days i'm used to... but this time instead of being 3-5 days it stayed for 14 days... and then of course 5 days later i started again!! i was soo frusterated. but by the time i had the "second" period that month i scheduled an appt with my gynecologist and he gave me 3 months supply of Yaz 24, and i had the same problem nearly on those as with out hormonal birth control. I would have a normal period (if you can call it that) about the 3rd week that would be light spotting - medium spotting for 3 days... then the 2nd day of the inactive pill (there are only 4 inactive pills with yaz 24) i would start again and it would be the same, light to medium for 3-5 days. so i stayed on it the full 3 months to see if my body would adjust to it, and unfortunately it didn't so i was given a 3 months supply of ovcon 35, and for the life of me that's not working at all!! i've had a period since i started that at the end of september until now... nearly a month later... i will be on a heavy like period for 3 days off for 3 days then right back on it... i've been doubling up on the pills to get the period to stop as soon as it comes back on but man this is getting so frusterating; i'm contemplating just going of hormone therapy and seeing if maybe my body will go back to the way it used to be. every 28 days - 30 days i would have a period that would last 4-5 days; like clock work. why did this happen? even my doctor hasn't been able to figure it out. so if anyone out there has had issues like this WHAT DID YOU DO THAT WORKED!! i can't take depo or lupron either..... i bleed the entire time i'm on it.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

i think that i'm going to go off the bc pills once this pack is finished; and to let everyone that's responded and anyone that wishes to respond; i've had ultrasounds and blood tests and everything is coming up normal.. no fibroids and my hormone levels are actually in check.. that's why my dr. and i are so stumped.... i went on the pills to help regulate my cycle but it is obviously not working... i'm going of them in two weeks and i will keep everyone posted. thanks for your help.

stop taking everything. Your body is telling you something. If after 3 months of no hormonal bc you are still experiencing this problem go to your Dr. and tell him/her that there is something wrong, as for a complete work up.

If that is not an option ask your Dr. about Ibuprofren therapy, it can help with abnormal bleeding if it is stemming from an inflammation somewhere in there.

You poor thing. I am 53 yr old. But I have to tell you I at a early age always had the worst periods ever. From the very beginning to the end they only got worse and worse. I went to a gyno. that did absolutely nothing for me. She put me on some med. that did absolutely nothing. I would bleed rediculously for like 21 days straight. I finally got sick of the pain, not to mention the worry of going through my clothes, and i decided to see another dr. I went to a U of M dr. and he was very understanding and took care of me from the first day i met him. He understood the woman was trying to get things under control but he also understood that I had a really bad problem that needed to be taken care of. He did the ultrasound, and found I had many fibroid cysts. He set me up for a complete hysterectomy within a week. He said there were many more than you could even see in the ultrasound. This was the best thing i ever did was change dr. till I found someone to take care of me. If you want the name of the dr. I think he is in Briarwood now. He moved but i can give you his name.
He was the best dr. a woman could find and I highly recommend him to anyone. Email me back if you want his name.
Of course your not looking for a hysterectomy at your age but I guarantee this is the dr. you need to see. Good Luck!

D.,

I would stop everything and let your body readjust. Maybe after being off everything for a while you can try something again. For some reason your body does not like it.

Hi I was on the motrin 800 ml 4 times aday therepy for yrs and my cycles would get worse. I went to the gyn and asked about a procidure its called a Uterine ablasion and DNC. The dnc cleans you out and that helped for a bit but i had my tubes tied after my son was born 3 yrs ago so I wasnt goign to have anymore kids. If you have the Uterine ablation done you cant have anymore kids. It burns the inside of your uterus and ur unable to carry children. I tell you my cycles are a mear shadow of what they were before that is if I have one at all. Ask your doc about something like that for you they my find something else. good luck

I've been taking Ortho-tri-cyclen Lo and it seems to work on regulating my periods. But I would also get a second opinion. Unless you are very satisfied with your doctor and the suggestions that he/she is giving you.

When I was on yaz I had a tough time (prolonged cycle..the whole month) so I went off of it. I now take ortho trycyclen lo, I love it my period lasted 5 days, like the old days when I was regular. There maybe something more causing your cycle to be screwy, I know my cycle was all messed up for a while because of stress and lifestyle changes. You have to take the birth control pills for a good three months to be regular on them. Good luck!!!!

I used to have really bad periods too. Bleeding all the time and very heavy. I was on the Ortho Evra patch for three years which helped regulate me. It was stil a hard 5 day period but I knew exactly when I would start. When you are done having kids...have a novasure D & C. I had one a year and half ago and its wonderful. No recovery time. Either just spotting or no period at all. I can't recommend it enough.

Good luck to you. I know how awful you feel.
