I agree with Mamazita. Your pediatrician will have numerous referrals who accept your insurance. Your insurance company will have lists of member providers, but your pediatrician also knows you and your child and may be able to make a specific referral to someone he/she thinks would be a good match. They will probably also know who is taking new patients and who is not - which will save you time.

Your town may have a department of Children and Families (or some similar name) that offers counseling services to residents - if you can't find the right office, contact the Town Clerk's office as they usually have a solid knowledge of what offices handle different matters.

Mamapedia is a national forum and the likelihood that anyone on here is from your town is so low, it's not worth wasting your time waiting for a possible response to come to your in box.

Good luck - start tomorrow morning on the phone calls. Keep really good notes of where you call, when, and what they say or what names they give you.

Your doctor, school and insurance company should be able to provide you with many local referrals, a lot more (and better quality) than you will get here.

You should call your insurance provider and ask them for a list of those professionals that accept their payment plan.

Then start researching each one and see which ones treat kids or seem to offer kids the best environment to work through things.

If you want referrals to different ones then you might post on a FB community page that you're considering this company and that company and ask if they've taken kids to either one and which would be better or do they have a good/bad review of either place. This way you have actual people in your town giving you their opinions.

i live in MD and i'm not doctor.
i suggest looking in your own geographical area, and starting with your pediatrician.
