I just got rid of my swivels (yes they fell over a few times, but any stool does...) my main reason is the kids dinged the wood on both sides on the granite and messed them up. I replaced them with a highback chair.
Hi ladies :) I am in the market for buying counter stools and have heard that swivel and seats with backs are more dangerous for kids because they play on them and push back causing the seats with backs to tip over...no head injuries please :) What do you ladies think? Do you have any experience with bar/counter stools and which ones are safer?
Thanks!!!!

I have plain old wooden bar stools with no backs, they don't swivel, absolutely nothing fancy about them at all. We've never had a problem with them. I was a little nervous about it at first because my girls never sit still, but once I removed the top cushion part so it's ALL one big hunk of wood with no cushion, they're FINE :)
I don't know about the safety factor and that does not come into play here since we have a 16 yr old.
I have stools that swivel, no back and I got them VERY reasonable priced through SkyMall. We use them all the time and love them.
Mine are white with a light oak seat.
Kids will tip them over whether there is a back or not. We have a huge counter in our kitchen with 5 barstools. We have always had backs just because they are more comfy for adults. And the ones we have now swivel, but have had ones that don't. The swivel ones are easier because they swivel. I think its just a matter of teaching your kids correctly to sit on them and tell them they are not a toy. Good luck!
How old are your kids???
If young, any 'stool' is a potential hazard. And any stool, can tip over and depending on how high, it is.
If anything I would not get a 'swivel' type. It is more dangerous and kids naturally like to play with 'swivel' type things. Spinning around on them for fun. Whether or not it has a back on them or not.
Maybe try Google search "safe counter stools for kids."
