Okay, thank God he is interested in potty training, my son is 3 year old, so he has a potty chair in the bathroom and lately he just wants to be naked and pee in there and do number two, sounds all good right? No, not all good. He pees a drop at a time then gets up, he poops one tiny poop at a time, gets up, he won't listen or does not understand that he has to stay there until he's done so he does this routine for a span of 2 hours tonight, it's 10:12 and it's one hour past his bed time and he's throwing a fit when I put his pajama on him, I am glad he has interest in potty training but we can't do this tonight until 3 am. Pls. ladies with experience help me! Thanks.

What can I do next?

Time to break out the story books! Get him to associate potty time with his favorite books and maybe he'll stay put long enough to finish?

While he is on the potty can you maybe sing to him a silly song or tell him a story? When my son would do that I would sit with him and tell him made up stories about, for example, the bear in the forest who lost his ball. It helped keep him on the potty until he was done. Every 10 seconds or so ask him if he is still going and get him to concentrate on it; then get back to your story. When he is done make sure you praise priase praise! I did this for about a week or so and next thing I knew he was going on his own. It takes patience just like everything else.

Hope that helps!

Maybe try finger-play songs to keep him on? Or start with various rewards for minute-increment-milestones (like, if he stays for 1 minute, he gets ___ and 2 minutes gets ____), along with a fun timer? Good luck!

My just turned 3 yo is finally fully potty trained. He also only pees a bit at a time. Though he is tall enough to stand and pee, so he just goes in whenever he has to. He has even figured out how to unzip his sleeper when he has to go at night or early morning. On occasion he can't zip it up so he wakes me for that. I taught my son early on he can get up to pee so maybe that will help with the PJ fight. I would start to enforce clothing, at least underwear and shirt and then move to add pants if he is resisting clothes. It will make him more independent and rely less on you for help. As for pooping I would try to get him to sit for a longer period. My son sometimes takes 30 mins to poop. Occasionally he won't wait for it all and goes twice, but for the most part he sits til done now. I just kept reading to him and telling him to wait until it was all out. It takes more effort initially but now he just goes to the potty and calls me when he is done pooping. This is a tough transition and all kids learn their own way in their own time. Hope you can find something that works well, and remember this won't last forever.
