Please Help. All of a sudden I have noticed that my entire body is drying out. Fast. My skin is so dry I am embarrased to show it, My cuticles are so dry they are hurting. My nails are brittle all of a sudden, when last month they were long and pretty. My hair - forget it, a complete mess. Its breaking and has grown 1/2 inch in 4.5 months. My lips are so chapped they crack daily, no matter how much treatment i put on them. My skin is dull and just nothing looks the same. Also the heels of my feet are itchy all the time. VERY irritaing.

I just had a physical 4 months ago that came back fine.

What do I do? Where do i begin to find answers. Lotion, manicures, chap stick... NOTHING is working :(

What can I do next?

Have your thyroid checked! Those are some thyroid symptoms. I recommend Dr. Launius in Lewisville. Most Dr.'s wont know how to check your thyroid properly. They will just say "Well, your levels are normal" even if you have all of the symptoms and your levels are at the low end of normal. Good luck!

Lotions, creams, etc only treat the symptoms, not the problem. Could be thyroid, could be hormones or any number of other things. But since this has come on suddenly I would suggest you see a doctor. And, as many others have said, drink lots of water. And take Omega 3's. I highly recommend Projoba Omega. It's fantastic; no fishy burps.

Sorry to hear that you are having that problem - I understand, although my problem isnt as bad. My question to you is - do you also suffer from dry eyes and sores in your mouth due to dry mouth? If so - you might want to request a complete blood work be done.

I was diagnosed with Sjogrens syndrome in my early twenties (supposedly really early) and it is a auto immune disorder when your own body attacks your moisture producing glands in your body. So it causes dry skin (I always feel like I have goose bumps on my arms even though I am not cold) dry eyes, mouth, etc.... It is just an idea if things dont get better. Unfortunately there is no medicine, but if left undiagnosed, it could lead to early onset of arthritis, etc... so it is best to be checked out quickly.

If this doesnt sound like your problem, I sure do hope you find a solution and I think the drinking water constantly and I normally rub Baby oil lotion on my skin before I dry off with a towel - it helps lock the moisture in, smells like a baby and it doesnt leave a greasy residue.......just soaks right in!

Good luck!

I think the advice to drink more water, condition your hair and using a nice creamy lotion are all what you need. I go through the "dry" spell every winter, as do many people I know. If your home uses natural gas to heat, that is most likely the culprit. A physical four months ago, would have put the calendar just before winter. I would not go running to the doctor just yet. As the weather gets warmer and you are using your heater less often, see if things change.

Do you feel dry on the inside too, or just out - dry mouth, lungs feel like they're rubbing together, stomach pain - like your intestines are on fire?

If it's only the outside, run a humdifier. If it's on the inside, too - you need to head to the doctor.

I know you just had a physical, but here is something inside going wrong here!! Are you experiencing any other new symptoms?? It sounds like a major possibility that your thyroid is going crazy:) Are you more depressed, or forgetful. Have you put on weight, or just still struggling to get the baby weight off?? Are you colder than usual? I would really make your doctor look into this, or any other possible reason, this is just the one I am familiar with! Be sure he does a full thyroid panel, and still, dont accept no for an answer if you read up on hypothyroidism and feel strongly that you have many of the symptoms. Good luck, I hope you find some relief soon! ~A.~

I think the problem may be that the PH of the water in your home is off. Something is wrong with the PH levels, and when they're out, your hair and skin get too dry. You may notice that your laundry isn't cleaning very well, either. Stains may not come out as well. The city you live in is putting too much of a certain chemical, maybe chlorine, into the water and the PH levels are probably way off.
I'm not sure how to correct it, but a friend of mine is having this same problem right now, too. She lives in Red Oak.

E., I am 51 and am dealing with similar issues. If you are very much younger, I would say that this is unusual. My symptoms have come on gradually, due to a loss of hormones. You need to make sure that nothing is going on internally. You could go to a dermatologist, but since your symptoms came on suddenly, I suggest that you have a more in depth blood test done, etc...

You can also start drinking several cups of decaf white and green teas. Eating foods rich in vitamin E and healthy plant based fats should help: avocado, olive oil, peanut butter. My dermatologist told me to use cerave lotion. I also use the liquid soap in the shower. You can find it at CVS.

Water, water, water. I have severe dry skin & lotions, I could recommend but with the hair, fingernails & Lips also being so dried out, you might really need water. I had dental surgery a week ago today. I hate water, so hadn't had any. Could have a drop of anything before surgery & it wasn't till 2:30 PM. I think I also had a reaction to the numbing medicine they put on my gums. But my lips were so dry & cracked & raw, it was the worse part of the deal. I bought Carmex, Vaseline, Neosporin w/pain reliever in it, I was in pain. Nothing was really helping until I started drinking water like crazy & within 2 days my lips were healed. If it's not dehydration then I don't know, especially with you just having physical. Have you recently been on any antibiotics? If so then maybe your electrolytes are all messed up. Bless your heart, I hope you find relief of some kind fast.

Hello E.,

I want to start off with I agree with everyone who said you need to drink more water.

In addition to that, I have a botanically based skin care, health and wellness company. We have products for severely dry skin. My 6 year old has eczema and I use one of our lines on her and now the eczema is gone.

We also have a supplement that helps with healthy skin starting from the inside.

I do have before and after pictures of what our products can do, if you're interested.

I wish you all the best, please let me know if I can help.

Take care and God bless,

M.

Drink more water! drink until you think you can't anymore! It will be inconvenient for a bit, but once you get re-hydrated, it will be ok. This Texas weather is a bugger, so lots of water, vaseline on your hands and feet before bed, super hair conditioner, and apply an extra facial moisturizer. You didn't mention your age, but once we get past 30, it all starts getting drier. Good luck!

Hi E.,

Sorry to hear that. I was having some dry skin issues(not as bad as yours) so a friend of mine introduced me to Renew. My daughter also had terrible dry skin and now we are dry skin free!!!
If you want to try some first I can send you a sample.
They compare Renew with Eucerin( perssonally I think it works way better than eucerin).
Anyways, if you would like to try, just send me a message, no pressure.
Good luck,

My daughter introduced me to Aveeno lotion for my dry skin and it was a miracle. I also started drinking a lot of water because I was told my body was dehydrated, which also helped. Vasaline helped my lips, but try the pinch test. If you pinch the skin on the top of your hand and it doesn't snap back immediately, you're probably dehydrated. So try this quick test and see. Good luck!

Water Water Water........Drink a LOT

I have been going through the same thing...this time of year I think.

I just spent a day at the spa and was hydrated so well and feel SO much better. The one thing that was stressed so much to me was to drink more water.

After I shower, I do not towel dry, I use lotion/oil before I use the towel. I've been using some skin oils and lotions from Origins that I LOVE. It helps a lot.

Good luck.

I had this problem as a teen and the only thing that worked for me was in shower body lotion( cant remember the brand but I want to say it was caress) and I had to drink A LOT of water. I was told to consume at least 120oz of water every day and no soda or sugered juices as they dehydrate you.

I had really bad dry skin problem a couple of years ago. It was so bad that my left arm actually split open and oos all day! (sorry to be gross). I went to several dem...and finally found one that was able to help.

Here are some suggestion that might help.

Use only Dove or Olly olay body soap...it has less harh ingrediants to your skin. Did you change laundry soap? If so you might be having an reaction to it. For a period of time I had to stop using fabric softners that would irrate my skin. Drink lots of water. If you don't eat fish you might want to take omega 3. Buy some good lotion-without any fragrence. After every shower just pure the lotion on. Also try taken Clarton, or Allerga to help get rid of any allergy's under you skin.

Sorry its so long. I hope you feel better soon.

IT sounds like you have lots of good advice. I would also say to try olive oil every so often. It doesn't smell wonderful, but it can be used anywhere (even hair) and works wonders. I use Eucerin body lotion. I can't remember exactly what it's called, but it says extra hydrating and feels kind of greasy, but I love it at night before bed.

It does sound like you're not getting enough water. Also, if you drink caffine, that adds to it because it dehydrates you. Just drink water for a while, and drink lots of it! Good luck!

Have you lost any weight? It just makes me think that maybe you a a thyroid problem or something for this to be so sudden. Thyroid can be tested with simple blood test.

I am realy dry, too. I use very heavy creams that have shea butter. There is a french one with maroon top and goat on front(Sorry can't remmeber the name).Tehy have an entire line, and you can find it at whole foods I'm sure. That is great. I don't mess with regular lotion. it does not help. I use body cream on everything right out of the shower. I like burt bees foot cream after a pumice stone. And burt bees chap stick is the best, too.

I would also take some vitamins. Maybe some prenatal vitamins will help.

Hope you get things figured out and good luck!

You NEED to start drinking more water. You are obviously not getting enough. Also, after you turn off the shower, rub oil on your wet skin and then towel dry (after every shower). I like Burt's Bees lemon oil but that can be a little pricey. Nutrogena sheer sesame oil is great too and it smells great. If you take a bath, add it to the bath water.
