Get a sitter for a night out and have a nice (but easy) family dinner and cake that includes parents the next day?
I can't decide what I want to do for my birthday... I keep flip flopping... Here are my possible ideas:
1. Have a big party at our house with all our friends and family. Pros for this would be that I would get to be with everyone at once, my kiddos would be there with me, my hubby and I could both have a few cocktails without worrying about drinking and driving... Cons for this would be the cost, prep and clean up...
2. Go out to a restaurant for some type of dinner with friends and family. Pros for this would be no clean up at our house... Cons would be that I never really feel like I get to talk enough to everyone when we do this, plus my preschooler gets a little ansy at a restaurant for long periods
3. Get a babysitter and go "out on the town" with hubby and friends. The kidless part of this is both a pro and a con lol... but also my only babysitters are my mother/mil so I would probably hurt one of their feelings asking them to babysit so I could go out for my birthday without them
4. Do nothing or go out of town for a night with just our family. Cons for this would be cost and that we do this fairly often so might not be very special...
Any thoughts? What did you do for your last birthday? I didn't really do anything for last years (my 30th) so I want to do SOMETHING this year...

PARTY! And hire a cleaning cleaning lady to do the dirty work :)
During the day you can hang out with your kiddos and your family. Have everyone come over for brunch or something and hang out and have some fun playing games.
At night, I would get a babysitter and go out with your hubby and your favorite friends and have lots of fun doing whatever YOU want to do. Be spontaneous, crazy whatever you feel like.
You get the best of both without feeling like you left anyone out, or missed out.
It's your day do what you want to do! Just make sure you have fun!
Friends one night, family the other. 2 celebrations. Nice.
Mine was yesterday, A.. I went into the city, had drinks over the beautiful skyline at sunset, and then had dinner at a great restaurant. The food was good, but the wine was great! Took the train back in (so I wouldn't have to drive) and had a happy time of it.
I took a nap today - didn't get enough sleep! Bahaha!
Hope you have a lovely day, whatever you decide to do!
Dawn
Take your family away for a special weekend.
Hint to others for them to throw you a party at someone else's house.
Do whatever you haven't done for a long time.
My birthday? Mine always falls on the weekend of the Super Bowl. The restaurants are empty and are offering special discounts because of that.
I'm having my birthday several months early and we're renting a cabin in the snow for a week. :) :) :) Well, not quite a week. But hairs and splitting.
In any event; friends and family are going to come up during the week and stay the night on different days. It's only about 2 hours away from all of us, so no muss, no fuss.
I'm splitting it with my son.... who is having HIS party 'late' (hospital issues kept pushing it). So one night is a sleepover with 2 of his besties (and their parents are invited).
I've wanted to do this for YEARS... but my bday is in the wrong season! Well, two braincells rubbed together and finally caught a spark. I'm having my bday eeeeearly!!! Yay!
My family had me a huge party. In reality it was our family reunion, but I said if they were going to do it (same weekend every year) on my birthday than I was calling it my party.
Go to the restaurant. Get up and walk around the table saying hi to people in between courses.
