So What Happened?

Thanks for all the advice. She see's a cardioligst on the 15th. I will let you all know what the doctor says. ***************** UPDATE ************** She and I went to the cardioligst on the 15th and two doctors checked her out. One doctor heard it and the other did not. So they said that it was an Intermiten Heart Murmer. Nothing to worry about unless she started having a hard time breathing or lack of energy. But nothing to worry about that a lot of kids have these. But anyways thanks for the information and relief that there are more children that have these, and not just her type of thing.

doctors like to scare parents with the words "heart murmur", but i promise in most cases it means nothing. all it means is that when a valve closes, he can hear a "whooshing" sound of blood behind it. that doesn't mean anything is wrong, but it is easier to hear in a child's heart. people may think it is something kids "grow out of" but in reality it just becomes harder to hear as they grow. just to prove my point, ask your doc how concerned he is about your child's "diagnosis". nice name by the way!

Hi L.,
a year ago my son fell at the pool and busted his mouth really bad. We took him to the ER (he was 4 at the time) and while examining him the Dr told us they heard a heart murmor.
I followed up with our pediatrician and he said that it was nothing to worry about. He said that allot of kids have hear murmurs and very rarely are they problems. I wouldnt worry to much unless they tell you otherwise. If your anything like me, when you hear anything about a problem with the heart you panic, but my Dr told me not to worry it was fine. I would just take your Dr's advise. Good Luck!

L.,

There are different kinds of heart murmurs. My daughter had a "functional" hear murmur, which is common and kids grow out of it. You need to find out what kind it is, but at 4, it's probably just the funcional kind. People with heart murmurs usually have to take antibiotics when they go in for a teeth cleaning, because any bacteria that is dislodged can float in the bloodstream and get sucked into the heart during the murmur part.

I know how scary those words are!! My son was also diagnosed with a heart murmur when he was 5. I was so PETRIFIED. As soon as I found out, I did all kinds of research online and most of it said it's very common at that age and nothing to worry about as long as the child doesn't have any problems being active...which my son certainly did not. We set up an appointment at Children's hospital with a specialist and they did an EKG and some other test. They said it was not a murmur and a lot of times pediatricians diagnose murmurs because it sounds like one when the child is in the office at that age and they start to get nervous because their heart is larger and stronger it pushes blood with more strength and when they are nervous, it obviously beats harder and faster so they doctor thought he heard a murmur. I know it's hard, but there is nothing to worry about yet.

I had a heart murmur when I was a child. I believe I was diagnosed when I was around 5, I had broken my collarbone and the doctors found it then.
I was a normal kid. I didn't have to take any medication for it, nor did I have any limitations. I grew out of it by the time I was in junior high. I would do your research but I wouldn't stress yourself out over it.
