I have heard various versions of this. The numbers and formulas have all been different. I wouldn't put too much belief into it. If it were that easy then we would all know exactly how tall we would be.
I have been hearing this from moms and I wanted to post it to see if any Mamasource moms have heard it and what you have to say about it!
I have been told that you can measure your child's height at 2 years old and double the number you get and it will tell you how tall they will be as an adult. For example, my son is 36 inches tall. He will be 2 on April 21st. If this is true, it looks like my son will be about 6 feet tall (36 X 2 = 72). Let me hear what you mom's have to say!

They do say that is the general rule. I don't know how true it is though, because my brother in law was supposed to be 6 feet and he is only 5'8". My brother on the other hand was only supposed to be 5'10" and he is 6'4".
Yes, I have heard this from my doctor, when the kids were that age, and it is just a guesstimate. However, my daughter is 2 1/2 inches away from her projected height of 6' so, time will tell, if this info is correct. My son has stayed on his target height too.
I have heard this. But it is only for about 65% of kids since other things also affect height. According to the doctor when I was 6-based on my birth length and height at the time, I should be 6 ft and I am very glad I am not (5'8" is just right).

I heard this too, however what I heard was double girls' height at 18 mos and boys height at age 2. I don't know if it's true/accurate or not, but I heard the same thing you did.
For the other posts, I wonder if they re-did it for girls at age 18 mos. if it's closer to accurate?
Have fun with it!

Hi K.!
Yes... actually my mom told me about this and also our old pediatrician said it's a pretty good indicator. I thought it was a wives tale, but I guess not.

Sorry, I don't buy it....My daughter was also 36 inches at 2 years. I am 5'4" and my husband is 5'10". I can't think of any men or woman on either side of the family that is six feet or over. I find it hard to believe that my daughter is going to be six feet tall....I guess I have to wait about 15 more years to find out! =)
well, according to that theory I should be 5'9 and I'm 5'3...not even close.
