I have always heard it was 3. I tried it though and my 12 year old is done double his height at 3 so I don't know if it is really true. He sprouted up really tall over the last year or so.
HI there, It seems like I heard that if you measure your child at a certain age and doule that number it will give you an approx idea of how tall he or she will be as an adult. Does anyone know the age or have any info on that subject?? THANKS!
I have always heard it was 3. I tried it though and my 12 year old is done double his height at 3 so I don't know if it is really true. He sprouted up really tall over the last year or so.
When they are 2 years old I have a little granddaughter and she is fixing to be 3 she is suppose to be 5ft 8 inches. I am 5ft 3 in and she is about half my height now.
I asked my doctor about that rule of thumb. He said that for girls, you can double the height at 2 years old. For boys, double the height at 2 and a half. Of course, its only an approximation. Hope this helps.
I read it was 3 years old.
P.,
I've heard that and the age is two.

It's at age 3 when you can double the height to find out the adult height.
I was told it was 2 years old. Supposed to be fairly accurate give or take an inch or two.
According to my mother-in-law, the age to do this is on the child's second birthday. She did it with her kids and it was accurate. I measured mine then - we'll see!
I just took my 4 and 6 year olds in for their well checks. The dr. said my son was at 75% for height and that 75% for a man would be about 5 ft. 11 inches. My daughter was at the 90% and that would make her about 5 ft. 8 inches. Of she is right, both my kids will be taller than my husband (5 ft. 8 inches) and myself (5 ft. 5 inches). Hope this helps.
i've always heard age 2.
At our 2 year check up, the DR said twice my son's height is said to be the adult height. He says it may or may not be true, but it is something fun to play with and put in the baby book.
So I will say 2 but it's no guarantee!!
On your child's 2nd birthday, you should be able to measure their height & double it to determine their approximate adult height. It worked for not only family members but friends.
I heard that for a girl you double the height at age 2 and for a boy it's 2-1/2. My mother in law did this for my husband at age 2 and it was exact. So I'm not really sure about the 2-1/2 yrs for boys, it may just be 2. Hope this helps.
O my I've read some of your replys and I'm scared. LOL my 19 mo old son is already 37 1/2 inches So if he grows anymore between 2 or 3 which ever the case may be he'll be a 7 foot plus boy. Omg!
The age is 2, though some newer studies are saying it is closer to 2 1/2. But your pediatrician can also measure your child's bones to find out their height.
If you double the height at age 2 it gives a pretty good estimate of the adult height.
I've also heard it was age 2. My daughter is 20 months old now. At her 18 month check-up she was 31 inches tall. I am only 5'! She's going to end up being 5'4" or so! lol
If I remember correctly it was the height at age two.
I think it's age 4, but I'm not sure. I think that Babycenter.com has more info about it.
I learned in my motor development class that you double a 2yr old's height to get an approximate height for them as an adult. This is not the case for the very small children that might have a huge growth spurt as a teen (such as one of my boys).
Height at age 2 is supposed to be their height as an adult. The caveat is that it's give or take two inches. :) ~J.
Yes, i've heard that too. I'm thinking the age is two. But i would suggest taking your children to the local health department and have them weighed and measured and they can tell you approximately how tall your children will be according to their percentile charts. Or maybe your family dr can do it.
It is the age of 2 years old
