Her time and money is just as valuable as yours.
I had my hair highlighted last Wednesday and when I left the salon I thought I was happy with it, but after living with it for a couple of days I feel that it's much too subtle. You can see the line where my old highlights were, she did the roots so subtle that I feel like it looks like it needs to be done again, and it's been less than a week. She said to me, I'll keep the highlights subtle like what you already have, and so I agreed that subtle was good. But now, I feel that a few of them need to be brightend to really look right.
Should I call and ask her to change it since I'm unhappy? I'll only do so if it's free of charge. Do I need to tip her again? I already spent 90.00 on the cut/color and tipped her 20% so I feel that's sufficient. Advice please! I've been to her 3 times in the past.
Wish I'd just listen to my husband and stop highlighting my hair, since leaving my old stylist 2 years ago it seems I'm never happy, ugh!

If she took the time out of her schedule to do a re-do in order to make you happy............ YES, I would tip her.
You are taking up the time when a full paying customer would be in that chair.
Yes, tip again... that way you at least pay for the products that will be used.
I would not expect to pay for the service to be re-done, but I would tip her for her time and effort to fix it.
I kinda agree, if you asked for subtle, I think that may be what you got. Maybe "brightened" would have been a better term to use. I am sure if you are unhappy, she wants to know about it. If she does do it again, I would for sure leave a tip, especially if you think you may use her again.
I've had my hair stylist for 15 years. I've went back once or twice in those years and asked her to re-do something and she's done it for free and happy to fix whatever it was.
My stylists always says to come back if I am not happy and she does not charge to fix it. I would call her and tell her you are unhappy and see what she says. If she does not offer to fix it for free then be blunt and tell her what you want. If she refuses then either find a new stylist or follow your husband's advice.
I am super sensitive to those working in service industries as I paid my way through college by waiting tables. She is the expert and suggested subtle when that didn't turn out well. You can totally approach her nicely and I'm sure she is willing to re-do, I would not tip in that situation. I'm in sales and I realize that not every activity doesn't lead to a commission, especially if I did a poor job, intentional or not.
