Hi S.,
Our 5 year old son also gets a nightly shot of human growth hormone because he has an abnormally small pituitary gland. I find he handles his shots VERY well and he almost never cries. Every once in a while I give it and he says it hurts but 99% of the time he doesn't fuss one bit. The needles they give you are very small. At first they gave us a re-loadable pen which came with a nurse to instruct me on how to use it :P, but then they switched us to a disposable pen which I like much better. I always do his shot in his fanny though they say you can do it in the leg or arm. One time I thought he had gotten some air and I panicked only to find out it wasn't a horrible thing because it goes into muscle not vein. Anyway. I could go on and on about this because I sort of learned as we went along, but you can ALWAYS email me if you need to chat or compare notes or whatever! :) He uses the Norditropin Nordiflex pen. I think there are only a couple of different manufacturers of HGH. They also told me to give him a daily vitamin because he will need it due to growing quicker than average until he catches up. Good luck hun. Don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you need some support!

I'm very interested on this subject, and would like to know more about growth hormones. Why is your son starting them?
My oldest is 3 years old and really short, my husband and I are short too, but my son was never even on the growth charts.
Our dr is very laid back, sometimes makes me wonder. Sorry I'm not much help. I look forward to read all the answers. Good luck to you and your little one.

I do not have experience with the growth hormones; however, I work with a food-science company and have learned a lot about how when our we are fed exactly what we need on a cellular level, our body's thrive and can start doing what they were made to do. Hormones usually start working properly, etc. If you have any concerns about putting your son on these hormones, please message me and we'll talk b/c I can get you in touch with other moms who've had children who were even 'failure to thrive' but their children grew before their eyes (and leave Dr's wide-eyed!) after using the simple nutrition offered by this company.
Wish you and your son the best!

BE VERY careful and do lots of "homework" before you agree to anything! Might want to also get a copy of NATUALLY HEALTHY BABIES & CHILDREN by Romm

Hi there. I'm interested in hearing why you started the growth hormones also...in other words, how did the drs. know there was a growth problem? The doctors told me during my pregnancy after a late-term ultrasound that our son would have dwarfism. Then he was born and looked completely "normal" and they said he was pretty average...maybe a little bit short, but definitely not a dwarf. Then he gradually went up to about the 40th percentile, but then dropped to about the 5th percentile the next visit...I couldn't tell if the doc. was concerned about his growth or not. I think he was, but he was trying not to alarm us, since we had already been through so much unnecessary stress.... He'll be a year old Oct. 1, so it'll be interesting to see how much he's grown when he goes in for his year appt. Sorry I wasn't much help.

My niece was getting the injections for a few years now. She just turned 15 and is very much "normal" size. She was very very petite and not eating too much for years before doing it. I always remember how her parents would force her to eat, that has completely changed now.
Good Luck!
