Hello Moms,

Our granite is very light beige color and every small stain shows up. There are some mug stains and other stains that does not seem to go away. What product you would love to utilize to do granite clean up. I have used Pledge, windex and some other cleaners, but nothing seems to work.

Please help!

We just put a very expensive light quartzsite in our kitchen. The spots are terrible! I had them come out and clean them up. I'm using this stuff called "high gloss" but it isn't working. To remove the water stains, they have to polish the counter with a grinder and then reseal. Once the spots are there, they are there unless you grind them off. :-(

I don't think there is much we can do. In the future, I will NOT be buying granite or quartzsite. It's terrible! It looks nice, but i find the upkeep to be terrible. And I wipe it off all day long. What a waste of energy.

Sorry, I wish I had a solution. I think the trend towards light marble looking stuff is a ploy to make money because it will all need to be replaced within a few years! next time I'm buying man made. My counter looks terrific, just don't look too close :-(

We just recently had granite installed in our kitchen and were told that we need to seal it once each year. Do you know if yours has been sealed on that schedule?

Is your granite honed? That means it does not have the shiny finish and therefore would be very porous and stain very easily. If it is not honed and it is still staining easily I would check with your granite installer to see why because it should not be.

Both of our kitchens have granite counter tops, both with shiny surfaces, one is dark green and black the other is light beige and tans. We do not have ANY stains or marks on them and I cook regularly, have kids and put hot pots on them regularly. Basically we do not need to be "careful" with our counters or concerned about them. We have had them for 9 years now and I have never sealed them since they were installed. I guess I should check into that, I never knew about sealing them regularly. I don't use harsh chemicals on them either though.

Good luck in finding a solution!

That shouldn't be happening if your granite is sealed. Quartz - yes that is common, granite - no. I'd find out why that is happening. Either call the installer or talk to someone at home depot, etc.

I've had my granite for 9 years and I've had no issues with staining. Granite will etch if acidic foods aren't wiped up immediately. We cook. We are messy.
I'm wondering if you have quartz.
Quartz and marble stain.
Hope you can figure it out.

I don't have a good answer for you (my granite is dark green/black and sealed)... but I would suggest you call a local granite installer and ask them. They may have a solution (if there is one) or a product that might help.

If your granite isn't sealed (or the sealant has long since worn off) then it is very porous (the natural stone is). Things that are acidic, like tomatoes, citrus, etc are not good to allow the juices to sit on the counter top. I always wash that juices up right away with cleaner, and then wipe with plain water to be sure the cleaning agent is completely removed also, because some cleaning products are harsh as well.
