I love learning new home remedies using stuff in your kitchen and essential oils. I would appreciate anyone sharing with me their favorites.

My fav, which I have only had to use once thank goodness, is plain old olive oil for lice infestations. Forget that nasty poison. Dose all the affected heads well in oil, especially the roots, pop on a shower cap and send the kids to bed. Wash everyone's hair in the morning, and enjoy the sensation that all those horrid beasties have been smothered overnight. Repeat after eight days to make sure no eggs survived, and you are both done AND everyone's hair looks great. (Except my husband's, because he has none.)
And white vinegar is great in so many ways. It works as a natural weedkiller, gets the stink out of all those nasty workout shirts, and with a little baking soda will power the grey right out of grout.

for a cold, cough, flu, head cold, or upper respiratory infection-
a shot of hot water, a tablespoon of honey, the juice of 1/2 a lemon, and one crushed clove of raw garlic. stir and down the hatch it goes.

for a dry cough, or to soothe a sore throat, either a tablespoon of honey, or a tablespoon of tahini (sesame seed paste).

clove oil is a natural analgesic and great for toothache.

yogurt is great for sunburn, and skin rash (eaten or applied topically). it is also great for heartburn, and after diarreah, or when taking an antibiotic.

mint tea can calm the stomach, as can anise, as can fennel.

If I think of any others, I will be sure to let you know.

good luck to you and yours,
F. B.

*Peppermint essential oil on the tummy or on the bottoms of the feet to quell nausea.
*Peppermint oil and grain alcohol on the temples to relieve a migraine.
*Use a half of a grapefruit, liberally sprinkled with sea salt on the cut side to scrub bathroom shower, tub, and sinks. It's messy, but it really takes care of soap buildup. I only do this when I feel like everything needs a deep cleaning.
* Apple cider vinegar for warts. Apply ACV to a cotton ball and tape with cotton tape to the affected area, leave on overnight- repeat for several nights, until the wart falls off. This worked for my daughter when having them "frozen" off by the doctor didn't work.
*I don't know if this applies to remedies, but I make my own foaming hand soap using Dr. Bronner's liquid mild baby soap, water and 20 drops of essential oils in a foaming soap container. Right now I have a lovely grapefruit hand soap in my bathroom.
*Bath salts/foot soak 2 cups Epsom salt, 1 cup baking soda, 1 cup sea salt (I use Hain brand, but you can use the brand of your choice). Add essential oils directly to the salt mixture, or keep the mixture plain and add E.O.'s as desired directly to the bath.

I just got rid or a small wart on the side of my forehead by applying apple cider vinegar on it!! Well it's actually an enlarged oil gland that popped out and hardened but looked just like a wart (sebaceous hyperplasia) and I did it by dipping a tiny piece of cotton ball with the ACV,placed it on the wart and secured it with a band aid over night, every night, it started to turn black within 2 days and about 9 days later it is completely gone!! It worked just as well for my husband who was getting these crazy warts around his fingernails from nail biting.

fruit flies - cup with 1/2 inch of apple cider vinegar, add a drop of dish soap.

The soap breaks the tension of the vinegar so the bugs can't "stand" on the film. They sink and drown.

Not really a remedy, but my favorite kitchen tip I learned this year is to soak fresh strawberries (or any berries) in a bowl of cold water with a good splash of vinegar in it (I use apple cider vinegar). Rinse, let dry on paper towels and enjoy fresh strawberries with no mold or mushiness for a good week. I also do this to grapes and they last even longer without getting "fuzzy".

I've also been using Vicks chest rub on my feet and legs lately when I get out of the shower. Great moisturizer and I'm pretty sure it has anti bacterial properties too. I think it will cure some nail fungus type things although I've not used it for that myself.
