D..
Hi Gamma. Help us poor techno-phobes out and tell us how to AVOID the virus...
I had to get on my phone...
It had a pop up box and a gray screen with a phone number and error code. Hubby was a tech guy so he's running anti virus stuff.
Anyone else have a virus today from here?
I've been on mamapedia forever, since before it became mamapedia and never had a problem before. Hubby ran some program and got it off.
Hi Gamma. Help us poor techno-phobes out and tell us how to AVOID the virus...
I've never had a virus--I have a Mac.
Good luck!
Oh! P. S. Sometimes those pop up "virus boxes" can BE viruses themselves on PCs. Never click them or call!
Gamma,
it could be a Trojan. In other words, if you click on that gray screen? You could open the virus to your phone.
Do you use McAfee or Norton? My husband and I are actually going to try PC Matic - our subscription to McAfee is up and it's a RAM hog...
If you are running a MAC or PC - you CAN get a virus. No computer system is immune and to believe that way is really ignorant, in my opinion.
What else were you using or have open? Some viruses are set as a "bomb" - on a timer - and will sit for minutes, hours or days before going off...as much as there are problems with this website, you can't blame mamapedia right away.
Good luck!
It's possible it didn't come from the site. It could be one of the ads or from somewhere else.
I highly recommend downloading "Hitman Pro". It is free for 30 days, plenty of time to remove whatever has infected your computer.
After that make sure you have a reliable anti-virus software like Norton. Keep it up to date and run it on a regular basis. Make sure you have protections turned on so it scans anything that tries to load onto your computer.
Just FYI, sitting on my sidebar of ads to this post are ads warning of viruses and asking me to "download here". Not a good idea to click on those!
I have a chromebook and ad blocker. I've never had a virus and pop ups are blocked.
That sucks, I hope it didn't cause you too much trouble.

Using a linux OS does protect you, for the most part, from viruses. Since most are created to do the most harm in the shortest amount of time, and since most people use a Microsoft OS, MOST viruses are written to harm them. My OS "menu" is written differently, so the virus gets in, but can't find what it's looking for and fizzles away. MAC users are protected more than Microsoft for the same reasons, but there are also a lot written for MAC, too. We've used Linux operating systems for over 10 years and NEVER had a virus. I don't even use a firewall or anti virus software. Only if you paid me to do so, would I consider using Microsoft. Ick.
