Good Recipe Using a Lot of Pears

I just received a gift box from work containing seven pears. None of us are huge raw pear fans, so I'm hoping to find a tasty recipe to use these (We do like them when they're cooked). Anyone have a recipe they recommend?

What can I do next?

I make a pear thing that most of my family thinks is bizarre but my guy and I enjoy it with as a side with a nice seared halibut or some large sea scallops. Or lamb chops. It's Pears stuffed with blue cheese and bacon.

Chop bacon into bit, render in a skillet until crispy. Drain fat.

Peel, half lengthwise, and core pears.

Simmer pears for bout 5 minutes in a pot of 2 cups very sweet dessert wine, 3 tbs sugar, zest of one orange, and a pinch of salt.

Continue to simmer liquid until reduced to half, like a syrup.

Fill cored cooled pears with blue cheese, I like Stilton, or Danish.

Put on cookie sheet under broiler til cheese is bubbly.

Spoon wine sauce over plated pear, top with bacon crumbles.

:)

Harry and David pears? Yum. I peal off skin and slice them into a salad with gorgonzola or blue cheese, toasted hazelnuts and vinaigrette. Goat cheese like chevere or even feta could work too if you are not into the super pungent cheese.
you can try them in a risotto (I've had a pear and curry risotto that was great)
Otherwise do a poached pear dessert and eat with vanilla ice cream.

If you want to take it to another direction, try using your pears in lieu of mango or peach for salsa, or a chutney.

Dutch Baked Pancake

Preheat oven to 400.

In a pie pan place 1/4 C butter with thinly sliced pears, no need to peel.
Place in oven for 12 minutes.

Mix until a little lumpy:
4 eggs
1 C milk (any kind, I prefer Soy)
1 C Flour
Dash of Salt & Pepper

Pour into hot dish, sprinkle with Cinnamon and Nutmeg, return to oven for 20 minutes,

Serve with sour cream, powdered sugar, preserves or syrup.

This recipe doubles well, then you have leftovers. Use a 13x9 pan. Use at least 2-3 large pears in the doubled recipe.

Pear sauce with vanilla bean. (Similar to applesauce.)

Poached pears (either in wine or with a vanilla bean). Can serve with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Peel and core and poach in liquid (simple syrup or wine) until cooked. Easy peasy.

Cranberry-pear sauce with 5-spice and cardamom. http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Cranberry-Sa...

If these are Harry & David pears you should simply become pear fans. They are FANTASTIC. If not - this recipe is great (yes it sounds odd, I made it because I was curious - assumed it would be either awful or really good). Linguine with pears and gorgonzola. My then 4 year old loved it too.

You can substitute for apples in any recipe-- I usually cut the sugar a bit if I use pears because they tend to be sweeter. My first thought was pear butter (like apple butter-- you can do it in the crock pot and your whole house will smell AWESOME) but 7 probably isn't enough for that!

As has been mentioned... the pear and bleu cheese thing is phenom. My favorite bleu cheese is Rogue River Smokey Bleu.

Favorite pear and bleu combo to date? (I'm going to try the bacon and bleu stuffed ones!)... Pear and Bleu tart.

Pizza dough, rolled or thrown round
Brush lightly with olive oil
Layer with pear slices
Sprinkle over with bleu cheese
Bake until crust is golden brown

You can add extras, like nuts or bacon or herbs or extra cheese (pecorino, parm, mozz, whatever), or just go really basic (I usually just go basic, but it can be fun to play). It looks like it's going to be sweet, but it's a really savory dish instead.

You can use pears in any recipe that uses apples, just substitute and use the same amounts of pears. I actually like the taste of cooked pears more than apples.

lately i have been making pear sauce to eat with pork. yummy! i just peel and core pears and cook them with a little water (the recipe i took this from calls for pear juice, but who has pear juice sitting around?), cinnamon, brown sugar, and a touch of lemon juice. cook for a while, squish, and enjoy.

I have a pear muffin recipe but I wasn't in love with it when I made them. I would suggest a pear gallette. Maybe you can google it.
