Ok, so I'm 21 & have never been to an OBGYN! Sounds kinda scary so I been putting it of!
Now that I been married for 2 yrs & have an irregular period its time to start getting checked up.
Plus my mom & some other people told me that if I don't get checked out I could become steril and not b able to have kids
And I do want kids so I am lookinh for an OBGYN preferably a women but, I have been told that men r better
At. Being OBGYNs then women is that true?
P.s. It says on here that I'm located in phoenix,az or somethin like that, well I'm not, I'm really in fort worth tx area!! And I don't know how to change it I didn't even put a location on here it did it on its own
I use Dr. Donna Kolar at Harris Methodist Southwest. She's fantastic! I'm on kiddo number 2 now, and she's wonderful!. She's quick and business-like, but she's never afraid to spend time answering questions with you. There are a couple of other doctors in that office who are also great.

It was more comfortable for me to see a lady when I was your age. Dr. Ellen Parril and MCNT out of USMD hospital in Arlington at Matlock and I-20. She is in the book.

THere's a practice across from the Hulen mall on Barwick. I see Ingrid Kohlmorgen, but there are several other ob/gyns that share an office over there. She's nice, has two young children, although she's a little quiet, but very professional. I've seen her after 1 baby and throughout my second pregnancy, although she didn't deliver. They are on a rotation where whoever is on call on her rotation does the deliver, but really, a dr. isn't usually there for much during deliver (just catching the baby) and in my case, my baby came so quickly that the nurse had to deliver it. So anyway, she's good and her nurse is sooo sweet.
Re: the man/woman question--it's a personal preference. I love my female OB/GYN because she is great at relating to what I've gone through. However, I have friends who love their male OB/GYNs. I say go with whoever makes you most comfortable.
Two docs in SW FW I've heard great things about are Dr. Heather Neville and Dr. Steven Suba. They are in the same practice:

I have had both male & female OBGYNs, but when I became pregnant - I used a midwife. They are associated with a physician group, deliver in a hospital and do all the well-woman care needed including general health screenings/blood work, etc if you need it based on age to test for cholesterol levels, etc.
I have known Celeste Williams and think she is amazing, but you may also want to try the UNT midwives at Harris Downtown. They are pretty great! Kathleen Donaldson and others. . . I can't remember all their names.
I believe that even if you don't have private insurance, but use medicaid or private pay they accept you, too. Not that that is an issue for you, but just a little FYI.
Men and women are both qualified. It's really your preference. Personally, I prefer a woman - I know she can relate to what I'm talking about. It is a good idea to have a yearly exam done and it's really not that scary.

I tend to prefer women OB/Gyn's because I think they have a better sense of what we're going through since they've gone through it themselves. I use Dr. Celeste Williams in downtown Fort Worth.
I've used both. Prior to visiting a woman, I was certain I'd always use a man. Prior to getting pregnant I used Dr. Jennifer Brooks, who is off of 8th street in the medical district of downtown Ft Worth. She's absolutely wonderful. I've been through a lot of issues with past doctors and she put me right at ease and she's funny! She does not do babies, she just does gynecology, (just the gyn, not the OB) so the downside is if you do get pregnant, you have to get a new doc. BUT she helped me find the right doctor. The upside is that her office is rarely packed and you usually get in a lot quicker. (That doesn't happen often with doctors who are pulled out for deliveries, etc. ) I suggest you give her a try- ###-###-#### is her office number.
