Gift Ideas for My Daughter's First Birthday

Hi Mamas-

I need some gift ideas for my DD first Birthday (12/21) and Christmas. We have an older child, so we have all the 'gender neutral' developmental stuff (like puzzles, shape sorters, stacking/nesting toys, blocks, Legos, etc...) Plus a ton of other items like a kitchen, stuffed animals, music toys, dress-up. (I know it seems like a lot, but he was the only grandkid and great grandkid for 3 years). The only item that has been suggested by friends that we don't have is a shopping cart.

I spent about $60 on my son for Christmas (thanks to Craigslist and couponing), but am thinking for her birthday and Christmas I would spend up to around $100. I also don't really like items that need batteries as I feel it takes away from the child's Imagination.

Can you recommend any Girl one-year-old toys?

THANKS!

What can I do next?

A push stroller and a baby doll, grocery cart is a favorite around here, and maybe a special little chair or something.

Stroller, baby and a bag of baby stuff (they sell great little bag kits with bibs, diapers, etc).

And yes, a shopping cart!

Most of what I have gotten say batteries needed but I am just going to leave out if I can. The ball popper needs them but the others I could probably keep out so they might work for you. So far for my daughter I have gotten a stoller http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3027470

a bunch of books a swing for next summer a few pull along toys for when she learns to walk. I haven't found a great doll that I love yet for her. I keep thinking Cabbage Patch but I haven't decided. Oh my daughters birthday is 12/14 so close to Christmas I dread it. Her due date was 12/21 but she was breech so I had to have a C-section. So congrats on surviving the first year. I didn't think it was that bad but that is what everyone is saying to me!

What about something for the backyard, like a playhouse or a water table? Something they will both enjoy and have fun with for many years.

My daughter turned one last week. Some of her best gifts were the Leapfrog Picnic Basket http://www.amazon.com/LeapFrog-Shapes-Sharing-Picnic-Bask...
and the Little People Farm: http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Little-People-Animal-S...
My four year old son is enjoying them, too.

Also, when you have a moment, check out my Discovery Toys page. My daughter likes to play with Go Go Caterpillar, Castle Marbleworks and Hammer Away. In the next 3-6 months, she will also be ready for Roll & Play, which is one of my favorites (and very popular with my son, too). Check them all out here: http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/karenchao

Girly bath toys, there are also the bath time crayons, and my daughter is now five and still plays with her baby doll stroller! :) Happy birthday to your baby girl.

I second the doll ideas, along with a rocking chair for rocking her baby.

Also, I put away many of the toys into a box as my older kids grew out of playing with them, and then re-gifted them to my younger kids when the time was right. Sometimes you don't need new toys, but new to them is just as good when you have so many toys. :)

What about a ride on toy? Or some type of outdoor toy?

A L. soft baby doll would be great. My daughter at that age really loved to push around things, her favorite toy at that age was the fisher price stroller that I gave you the link for below. Ride on toys are great too.
