What about a 2010 calender with pics of your kids on every month? A photo book--the hardbound ones where you can add text, etc? I also LOVE the pre-loaded digital photo frame that you can update for her every year!
My mom has a birthday coming up in a couple of weeks. She is going through a very hard time right now so I'd like to get her something nice from my boys. (we live in different states but will see her 2 days after b-day) I'm stumped for ideas though. Any thoughts?

Can the boys come over and help you cook Grandma breakfast in bed?
Something personal like that I am guessing.
A digital picture frame w/ pictures of your kids from the past year and then you can add or update each year. She can enjoy the pictures anytime she wants. :) I did this for my parents for Christmas and they love it!
Give her something either very sentimental from your children and/or something very useful....that she can use if she has a tight budget... something that she needs or would be a treat that she would never buy for herself.
ie: a hair salon gift cert., someone to wash her windows, someone to cook for her, a photo portrait of your kids and a drawing of them, a needlework pillow with your kids on it... try www.etsy.com for some great artisan crafted gifts like photo pendants of your kids, a massage, a total respite for herself and someone to clean her house and/or repair things that need repairing... a gift cert for a great restaurant or you all take her out for a nice dinner... getting her supplies for any hobby she might have... or gardening things if she does that. The point being to get things for her that would otherwise cost money for her... lots of times Grandparents/elderly will go without... because it costs money and they have a tight budget... even if it is for needed things or loved hobbies.
Grandma's, if elderly... need needed things. My Mom is like that.... she has TONS of knick-knacks and can't use them and they take up all of her shelves... and it is more cleaning for her.
Just some quick ideas... I don't know what kind of hardship she is going through, but I wish her all the best,
Susan
Pictures are always a good gift. One of those talking photo frames?
How old are the boys? Maybe they can draw/paint her a nice picture that you could frame.
