Gift Ideas for Dad?

Hi... My creativity is at a low point. My dad will be turning 67 in a couple of weeks. He is impossible to shop for and always states he wants nothing. Well, this year his 9 month old twins will get him a present. The problem... what to get? He isn't active (doesn't golf, fish or travel for ex.), he is still working and heavily stressed (but wouldn't go for a massage type thing). Ideas... anybody? :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I think I'll definitely do the photo calendar but need one more idea... :)

Books are always good. Does he read? Have a favorite author? Maybe a signed 1st edition would be cool.

Second thought was movies - either a rental gift cert or movie pass of some kind.

Food is good too. Does he like meat? Steaks are always nice.

Good luck,
Richard

Hi. I had the same problem with my own dad last year. He doesn't really get out much and workes alot! He ALWAYS says he doesn't want anything and even when you do get him something, the first thing out of his mouth is you didn't have to. So, there is this great great great website called www.onetruemedia.com It's a slideshow maker and you can even add music to it. I uploaded a bunch of pictures from my computer onto the site, arranged them, picked a song and presto.... my dad loved it!!!! He asked me to make another one. When you're done making it, you can download it to your computer and burn it or you can order a dvd of it from them.
Hope that helps. You should really check it. It's free to make it and download it.

If your dad is as in love with your twins as my dad is with my twins (and other son), he will love a photo book. I made one at shutterfly.com with a ton of pictures of the boys, and it was fairly inexpensive. My dad takes it to work with him every day to show off his boys. Good Luck!

Take him out to a nice dinner? We just took my dad to Sal & Carvao- he loved it and is still talking about it. Another nice restaurant in Schaumburg is called Entourage. You could always add a cake that has a picture of the twins on it.

Other gift ideas include: a blanket with the twins picture on it, a puzzle with their picture, etc. Or how about a gift certificate to a studio so you guys could get professional pictures taken? I like picture things, can you tell?

Good luck!

I have the same issue with my dad every year, every holiday. He's not into material gifts - he doesn't want clothes, he has every tool ever invented. He loves fishing but has every gadget that comes out. For Christmas this past year, I decided that I was going to get creative and I made him a Power Point presentation on the computer. I made it for both of my parents and put in pictures from when my brother and I were little up until recent pictures. I included pictures of their two grandkids (my daughter and my nephew), I wrote a narrative about how much I love and appreciate my parents and then put the whole thing to music. It took me A LOT of time to create but when I played it Christmas morning, both of my parents, my brother and myself were all in tears watching it. My parents were absolutely ecstatic about the gift and even made me bring my laptop to the family gathering so the entire family could watch it. Now I'm in the process of putting the entire thing into a scrapbook so that they have the hard copy (minus the music, of course). But it was a huge hit and now we're working on doing one for them exclusively of the grandkids.

Well the first thing I noticed was the Tastefully Simple,
what is his favorite meal or dessert you could either cook it and freeze it for a later date or just cook it and have him over or take it to his house if he is close. The one year my kids gave papa all his favorite snacks we bought two or three of each so he could have some on a later date. Or another idea is a nice photo of the kids or a calander with the kids pictures on the different months and just an idea for when the kids are older the one year the grandkids all colored and drew pictures that I turned into a calander. Oh I just remembered a couple other ideas we have made stepping stones for the yard, Or planted seeds in pots that can sit outside. And my father in law always wanted a picture frame key chain that hung in his truck so every year all I had to do was update the picture and every couple of years I bought a new key chain because it would get scratched up. Have fun with it. At this point it does not have to be huge any small gesture will mean the world to him just so he knows you remembered his birthday.

Hi Nicole
The only other thing I would add in addition to the great ideas on here -- is a gift cert. for a hotel stay. We do this in my family....and then we all stay at the hotel, even if it is just for a night. With a pool, it is fun for the kids, and if you can get adjoining rooms -- when the kids go to sleep you could play cards or chat with your parents the rest of the evening. You can order pizza in, bring in a cake and have your own little party any day that works for your family and your parents. To lower costs, you can pack your own beverages and snacks. It is a great time.....

We all have so many material things and all we really want is more time with the ones we love.

Good luck!
T.

I use zazzle.com to create custom t-shirts and things for my parents from my son. For the 1st Father's day after my son was born, I made my dad a t-shirt that said:
"Ben's Grandpa
(Ask for details)"
My dad loved it. I'm sure you could come up with something cute from the twins!

My father is the same way! For the last few years, we usually try to get "experience" type gifts... tickets (Cubs, Blackhawks, etc), NASCAR ride-a-long, etc. He has loved them!! Good luck!

How about hand prints or foot prints of the kids with a little grandpa saying (they have them at baby's R us) I myself went to michael's and got a garden stepping stone kit put my sons foot and my daughters hand, their names and the date and gave them out for presents. Looks nice on the porch, deck, in the garden, even in the house.
