Gift for Daycare Provider?

My husband and I just chose a new in-home daycare. We have been very happy with our current provider, however, she lives across town (30 miles of driving per day!) when both of our offices are two miles or less from our home. With gas prices being the way they are, we really felt we needed to make the change to something closer to home.

I would like to give our current provider a gift to thank her for all that she has done for our family but I'm at a loss for ideas!

What would you give your daycare provider as a thank you for all that she has done for you?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the great suggestions. Since she isn't really a "spa" or "pamper me" type I think I'm going to go with a gift certificate to a local restaurant. I don't think she goes out to dinner much, so maybe she will enjoy a night out with her husband.

My favorite gift that I have received from parents of children at my daycare is a gift certificate for a restaurant and they insisted on babysitting my children while I went out with my husband. This was a slam dunk for me! I don't have family to watch my kids, so finding a babysitter can make going out a job. My advice would be to really be thoughtful. Think about what you know about your provider and get her something she would really appreciate.

As a day care provider who has felt greatly unappreciated by parents over the years, I am glad to hear that you want to show your appreciation for all your current provider has done. I would suggest if you know of something she likes to do on her own time that you get her a gift certificate to a store that caters to that. Or bath and body works, her favorite restaurant, flowers delivered, or a plant, I know these are things that I would appreciate. Hope that helps.

gift card for a pedicure, facial, message or maybe the place she has her hair done or to a restaurant. But I would prefer something to pamper myself with speaking from a daycare provider.

That's my opinion.

You could go in two directions... practical, or personal. However, since you're leaving and want to thank her, I'd go personal. You didn't mention how old she is, but a favorite, and one I don't think you can go wrong with, is a gift certificate to a spa. With how busy her days are, some quiet, personal relaxation time would probably be appreciated. The other suggestion, would be to indulge her if she has a hobby of any type, perhaps something she doesn't get to do often enough- perhaps give a gift certificate for her to enjoy. Either way, I'd also maybe frame a family picture or a personal "thank you" note and have your daughter sign it or write on the bottom- some type of keepsake she'll always have... Good luck- and that's very thoughtful of you!
