I am not sure what if anything to give my daycare provider. My child has been there for two months and I am very happy with how things are going. Since it is Christmas coming I am not sure if I am soposed to give a money gift or anything else for a Christmas gift. Does anyone who may have more experience with in-home day care have any ideas or suggestions?

What can I do next?

Its never easy to guess what to give someone that you dont know very well. As you get to know your childs Day care provider better you can get more personalized things. But how about flowers or a plant and a card to say thank you. What ever the gift I am sure it will be appreciated.

You should give your Daycare provider 1 weeks salary.

Hi A....I have not had to utilize a daycare for several years but have a close friend who is a provider. She has told me more than once how the parents of her "kids" doat on her for being there for their kids while they go off to work. Some providers bend over backwards for their parents while at the same time there are some providers who do nothing to go that extra mile. In my experience, I lavished my provider with little things that I knew she liked. You are in their home on a daily basis. Look around and find out what decor is. You would be surprised what you can find at Goodwill or Savers!!!!

How about a gift certificate towards a bacteria removing wholehouse air purifier? see www.yourbestair.com/aawp

As a mother of ten, I wouldn't be without mine. That would help your daycare too. It really pays for itself by avoiding sick days and in more ways. $50 referral fees repay the purchaser unlimitedly.

Interested?

Hi A.,
I'm an in-home daycare provider, and have been for the past 4 years. I've received anything from a Christmas tree orniment, a nice bottle of wine, a gift certificate to my regular hair salon, to a colored picture from one of the little ones I care for. While it is nice to receive a little something to show they appreciate my services, it certinally isn't necessary. Since you've only been there a few months, I don't think you need to do anything too terribley extravigant, but a little something might be nice. Just my oppinion, hope it helps.

This year I bought the daycare facility several large pizza's. It's a staff of 6 so I thought this way it could easily "give thanks" to all of them at once instead of trying to do individual gifts. However, in the past when my daughters were at an in-home daycare, I bought gift certificates to the local spa for a pedicure/manicure etc so that she could do something special just for herself.

Hope that helps.

I was very touched when my daycare family showed up on a day they weren't scheduled with cookies, photocard, and $50. Honestly, the $50 was beyond what I expected, the cookies and card were awesome. Just something to know that the job I do is important. I give all my families and kids gifts, regardless of how long they've been with me. This year, the pre-k kids all are getting sleeping bags, the family a free day of sitting on a weekend/night out, and free passes to MOA (because we get them free from work). Your provider is an extention of your family, taking care of your most precious. I'd signal it in some way, she will NOT forget it!

This year, I gave our daycare provider a nice bath set. I found out her husband was going to take the two older kids out of town for the Christmas holiday and she'd be home with the youngest. I thought when the youngest was sleeping, she could treat herself to a nice warm relaxing bath or what ever. We gave it to her yesterday and she seemed to like it.

Of course give her something...great ideas mentioned below, but also think of gift cards to cub, target, lakeshore learning, restaurants etc. you would give your hairdresser a tip for a nice haircut and this person is taking care of something way more precious than your hair.

We have been with our provider for about 4-5 months now and we wanted to get her a gift just to show we appreciate her and wish her a Merry Christmas. We had our daughter "write" in a card (more of a scribble with a marker) and we gave her a gift certificate for Applebees. We were not sure what to get her (we are new to this too) but we remembered she said her and her husband were going there a few times and thought she would like it. I would think back and see if there is anything she likes or has mentioned that is in your budget. I am sure she would like whatever you pick :)
Good Luck and Merry Christmas

My son was in an at home day care for quite awhile. Some of the things that she appreciated were body products or gift cards toward that end - something she can use to pamper herself. She also liked gift certificates for gas and PDQ - you can always use a good vehicle cleaning when you care for children. After we got to know our provider really well, we got her more personal items that she collected, etc. We always had our son "sign" the card or draw a picture on it. It is not the amount of money you spend, it is just the thought that counts. With only having been there a short amount of time it may be hard to do something personal. But, I am sure the provider would appreciate anything that just shows you appreciate her and the care she provides.

I am also a daycare provider, I think it would just be nice to feel appreciated by receiving a letter of how they feel about my business, kind of a thank-you with thoughtful words. That would mean so much to me, to recieve that pat on the back so to say.
I have a group of providers and they have recieved various things, they like gift cards, paid holiday, that sort of thing. But the most meaningful ones are when we are told how much we mean to you and your child....
Happy Holidays!!

I have been a daycare provider for almost 20 years. The things that mean the most to me are the personal things - the gifts that I know they got for ME because they were things I liked, things that worked well for our family - not just a token gift they would give to anyone. The most wonderful gifts I have received are free - a card with a hand written note about how they appreciate my care and acknowledge all I do. One mom gave me a beautiful poem about being a daycare provider, put it in a nice frame. I got that this year and it is probably the best gift I ever got, because I know she understand how important it is to me, I was in tears reading it. THAT means more than anything.
