You can get some great magnetic bumper stickers online...we had one that was a yellow ribbon and had our sons name on it. Or they makes bumper stickers or magnets that say "Proud Army Mom" or "Proud Air Force Mom". I have one of the Proud Army Mom on my car right now!!

Do you want to give them each something? The mom can get a Cevia photo frame that the son can download pics to. But, there is a subscription fee with that. You could get them each a dual timezone watch. (There are inexpensive ones on amazon)

Something small and easily transportable. When my sister went into basic training she was only allowed what she could fit into a small locker. A picture frame is probably best. See if you can get a family picture from your friend and put in in there.
