Getting an EMG - Can I Bring My Son Along?

I'm getting an EMG done on January 4th. I was wondering if I could bring my son with me. I know that he would probably get a little bored and might fuss a little (He turned 1 in October), but my only other option is to have my mom stay home from work that day (Or to have one of my sisters stay out of school that day). I really don't want to have to ask one of them to do that. Do you think I could bring him with?

The EMG is being done on my left wrist/arm, if that matters.

What can I do next?

No. You need to get a babysitter. I asked that question when I had mine done and I was told no my kids could not be there and they are even older.

I wouldn't. You know how it is when you go to the doctor, you may end up waiting a long time :(
Where's daddy? When mom is sick/hurt, dad needs to step up. If dad's not around then I'd ask a fellow mommy girlfriend but I'm guessing that's not an option either? Would your mom or sisters have to miss an ENTIRE day? If that's the case well then it's easier to make up school than work, so ask one of your sisters!

I personally wouldn't. Not unless you have talked to the Dr who is doing it and they say he won't be a problem there.

To the best of my knowledge, an EMG shouldn't take but 30 minutes if it's only on your arm...

I don't know why someone would have to stay home all day. Why can't your boyfriend stay home and take care of his son?

I would have to agree with Cheryl. I had to have knee surgery and my fiancee, now husband, took care of everything. Isn't that kind of what they are there for, to support you when you need them?

I can't even imagine relaxing for a test when I was worrying if my child was getting in trouble.

Best to leave him with his dad.

Nope. Most hospitals and out patient places have policies that you can't bring children to procedures where you can't actually take care of or watch them. What would happen if he started crying? Or fell over while you're sitting there unable to get up?

Sorry, but someone (dad?) needs to keep him while you're busy.

Good lord, NO. When I had this done I was crying and screaming much of the time...seriously, this is not a really fun test. It is to find out if you suffer from nerve damage. They stick needles in certain points on your body and shock them. If it hurts it tells them on thing if not a different thing.

You should not expect a person to take off work to do this for you though. Don't you have a friend that is a stay at home mom? A neighbor? Anyone that likes you well enough to be called a friend that can watch the little guy for you for a couple of hours?

Find a Mother's Day Out program near you that would have an opening and start taking him one day a week. That way when you do have to make appointments like this or an OP/GYN you can say that you only have a baby sitter on that day of the week.

He should not go.
