I am looking for a good industrial garbage can.. I am sure that the city carriers them..but I was wondering. If I buy one at Lowes is it going to be the same strength (industrial one) as the one I am being charged 90 dollars for? the industrial one at lowes is 60. thanks!

What can I do next?

We have robotic garbage trucks in our area which can only pick up and empty their own cans, check before you buy one that can't be picked up....however our garbage service does not charge for the can, you just get issued a can! But this is a suburban area with a private garbage service, not municipal, might be different in the city...

You may want to check with your City. Even if you want to 'return' your issued cans, you may still have to pay the same price for the service- it's just built in to your taxes. Check with the provider- like the other poster said.
Good luck

Before you buy a can, call the waste management company that picks up your trash and ask them if there is a weight limit on trash cans. Sears in Westland once carried the large cans. I went to go buy one and was told that most cities do not want to pick up trash cans over 32 gallons and over 50 lbs. in weight, so Sears discontinued carrying those large cans. Certain cities are funny about stuff like that.

I bought 2 huge grbage cans last month at Home Depot. They are known by the brand name "Trashpan". I have two teens and the garbage flow in our house is heavy. My last trashcans bit the dust when the garbage truck accidentally backed over them and squashed them to pieces. I wasn't happy about this and I had to go buy new ones. I chose the Trashpan because of it's size and convenience and also because it fits neatly into our "garbage / recycling space" in the garage. They are industrial grade and have withstood our crazy garbage people and the way they love to fling the cans around and then leave them for dead! Check this out at your local Home Depot. They were the most bang for our buck too.

We bought a Rubbermaid garbage can at Home Depot - it was $75 - and that was 5 years ago - it's on wheels and holds a TON of stuff - it's STILL in one piece!! YAHOO!!! Like a Timex watch - it has taking a lickin' and keeps on kickin'!!!

you have to be careful of buying a big can. other than the one "they" supply they won't empty the big industrial ones. so check into it. how much are you paying? we pay $36 a year for the rent of a huge one from BFI. we had to give a big deposit which will be refunded when we are done with it.

Where I live noting is like the trash pick up cans. I know more about it because my husband is the trash man here. He is the one that brings the cans to your home when some one wants service and so on. I do know that if they have any old cans after getting new ones sometimes you can get one cheaper and they still work great.
