Galveston

We're going to Galveston end of next week and I want tips on good restaurants on or near the sea wall. We like casual, seafood, and hamburgers.

Also, are there any decent places to play in the surf in Galveston? I know the seawall beach is not a good place to jump in the water. I wouldn't mind driving a little to a beach nearby if it wasn't filled with jelly fish and seaweed.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Mario's trio of Galveston platter was GREAT! Actually, everything I got a taste of there was great. But especially the shrimp parmigiana. Casey's was really good too.

We went to the beach closest to the condo we stayed at, and the water was great but there was alot of seaweed and some trash. I don't know why they don't have trucks to clean the beaches like they do in So. California.

Our teen girls loved Schlitterbahn, and we stayed with our teen boy and went to Moody Gardens. The paddle wheel boat and the discovery pyramid were kind of dull, but the aquarium, rainforest and IMAX were all great. We had a great time!

Hi! I don't know how many of you are going or if you like Italian food but there is a place on the Sea Wall called Mario's. They have a HUGE pizza called the Mama Mia. It is really good food. As far as beaches, there aren't really any "pretty" beaches. Stewart beach is probably the nicest in Galveston, but I think there's a fee per car. Also, if you want to drive a litte Keemah is a great, kid friendly place to go. The Aquarium restuarant is really good! Hope that helps!!

Hi. I have been to Galveston several times and only had a problem with a jellyfish once and that was 17 years ago. However, there is a beach that you can drive right up to the water and we loved it. You have to take the ferry back across to the mainland. Ask at the ferry office what it's called. I know when you leave the ferry you go right onto that road and you go down about 1-2 miles. I just can't think of the name of it. Most people down there know it. Plus, while on the ferry we saw lots of dolphins so that was pretty neat. But, I really wouldn't worry too much about the beach along the seawall. I think you will be fine. Have fun.

We just got back from Galveston last week after being there for a week. And I grew up just 30 mins away and visit my family alot who still lives in the area. I second EW in saying that Casey's is a great place to eat (right on the seawall). It is right next to Gaido's and is owned by the same family. Gaido's is more upscale and Casey's is more casual (the same food for cheaper and you can dress anyway you like). The best beach for a family is Galveston State Park, which is located on the west side of the island. I like this beach the best because of the showers and restrooms where you can clean off after being at the beach. There are also picnic tables and grills on the grassy area.

We ate at Fishtales and we really liked it. We went 2 weeks ago and went to Crystal Beach one day. And the rest we went to the beach by the sea wall. It was fine!! We have a 2 yr old and 8. And both got in the beach. I don't kow why you would think it was not a good place to get on the water. They grade the beach everyday....they don't do that at Crystal beach so you have seaweed on the beach. Have fun its a great close gettaway!!

If you are willing to take a drive to Keemah Boardwalk a little north of Galveston near League City and Clear Lake area, there are several sea food restaurants. We just went to "The Aquarium" restaurant in Keemah and it was excellent and quite entertaining for my son. It isn't that far from Galveston as we were just in Galveston a few weeks ago. Have fun on your trip.

I grew up in Galveston and have a favorite restaurant. If you want a little change, Mario's on 61st Street is the best italian food. They have great pizza and seafood also. It is located on 61st and Steward Road. (This is the main turn off of 45. The Mario's on the seawall is not as good. You can also go to Stewart beach on the East end, but I think the state park on the west end is probably more family friendly. Have fun!

We travel Galveston fairly frequently. The best restraunts right on the Seawall are the Rainforest Cafe(which also has a boat ride through the rainforest inside), Landry's Seafood, and Tortuga(mexican). We have to eat at these places every time we go, if not once, sometimes twice!

We went to Stewart Beach last weekend, and it seemed to be fairly clean and family friendly. You can't drive on the beach, which we liked having two little kids who wanted to run around. It was also fairly clean. I don't think I even saw any seaweed there. There are also some showers and bathrooms there.

As far as restaurants... Kemah is a little bit of a drive, but there are quite a few restaurants and also alot of things to do with kids there. We really enjoyed going there also.

Have fun

We just got back from Galveston on Saturday. We tried out a new restaurant called Mario's and it was fabulous. Lots of Italian and seafood stuff to choose from. If you go east on the seawall, you'll come to a beach that is semi-private (you have to pay I think $5) and it has lots to do. It has a restroom : )
Hope you have a great time.
