Hi Moms,

I'm scheduled to have a Laprascopic Gallbladder surgery next monday. The doctor said I should be up and back to normal in 3 days. Has anyone experienced that quick of a recovery? What can i expect during the first day or two after surgery?

What can I do next?

I had the same thing, it was supposed to be outpatient, but I had to stay over because the anesthesia meds make me sick to my stomach and they wanted that to stop before they released me. So I went in on a Friday and was back at work on Tuesday, would have been Monday but it was Labor Day! Felt fine, just limited on lifting for a couple weeks.

I had laparoscopic gall bladder surgery about 10 years ago. I was in bed the day of (at home). I felt close to normal in 2 to 3 days, but I had to limit lifting for about 2 weeks.

3 days recovery sounds about right , my mom had it done 10 years ago and she was up and at it in no time.

I was walking around after three days but it really took about two weeks to stop feeling like I'd been kicked in the gut by a wild horse.

I had it done about 4 months ago, and I would say I was down and out for about 3 days. I really expected to be able to be doing some things the next day, and I was really in bed for 3 days. During the same procedure I also had a belly button hernia repair, so I'm not sure how much that went into play. I just could not use my stomach muscles at all, like to sit up or get out of bed or off the couch I needed help and it was really painful. After the 3rd day I was able to do just about normal activity, with 3 little ones not much time to be out of commission. Every day I felt better and better, and by 2 weeks felt completely normal.

The worst part for me was the pain caused from all the gas they pump in the abdominal cavity. I know it lasted atleast a couple days, other than that I didn't have any problems and was definately up doing normal stuff in a couple days.

Yup. You'll probably be up and about in no time. Like one of the responders, the main issue is the gas they pump into you. Keep your head elevated, and the gas'll go away in a couple of days.

Not everyone recovers the same, but I was rock climbing a week after my surgery. The biggest problem was the harness was irritating the scars.

I was up before that too. It really was easy, 3 little scars and about a week of soreness while sleeping on my right side and that was it.

Surgery was way better than dealing with the pain of the attacks!

I just had mine out a few months ago and after the second day I was more or less back to normal. You cannot lift anything heavy for awhile afterward of course and you need to take things easy if you can(don't over-exert yourself)but other than that I was doing everything I would otherwise do. I'm sure age and such makes a difference, I'm 28 and HWP and am otherwise healthy.

I did not feel back to normal in three days!!! It took me about eight days until I was able to eat. THe first five days or so anything I ate went right through me. I was really tired the first week as well. I would say it took about four or five days before my stomache was not achy. There is no way I could have gone back to work in three days! I would say give your self a week to recover. After the surgury slowly add fat back into your diet to see how your body reacts. I do daycare in my home. My doctor said four to six weeks before I could lift a child expcept for the three month old I was watching. I took two weeks off from her since she was so light. You will be really tired the first few days after surgery and your tummy will be sore. good luck!

I had mine out a little while ago...I was off for 5 full work days and then 2 half days...The pain was worse than I thought it was going to be through recovery, especially the first few days. As you can see by all your responses though, everyone is a bit different. I would plan for a week off, and if you feel better sooner, party bonus. The worst pain for me was the front shoulder area pain from them pumping you up like a balloon. But going back to eating a breeze for me :) I just hope you don't end up with my side effect of terrible bowel issues (sudden diarrhea or incredibly soft stool accompanied by gas and pain with no rhyme or reason as to why - I can't pinpoint it to types of foods or times of day or anything...just living with it still almost 2 years later). TMI...sorry! But it's worth it not to have the uber painful gallbladder attacks anymore!!

I had mine on a Monday and was back at work on Wednesday. I went home early but was back on Thursday and felt fine.

I also could drink OJ and not burp it for days after, I can also eat Tacos and other stuff that would do the same thing. Our bodies are wonderful at healing.

My surgeon told me that while I don't have a big scar, it is major surgery inside. I was tender and gasy. But it wasn't too bad at all. I missed a few days of work and school because my surgery was emergency surgery and overnight stay. You should be okay a couple of days aftwards but remember your insides are doing the major healing.

I was up before that. After I finally REALLY woke up after the surgery, later that night, I was good to go. Just be careful and don't pick up anything heavy. It's not too bad at all.
