Hello all - I have a rare date with my husband and we plan to spend the night in Raleigh without the kiddos. Neither of us are very familiar, though we've been a few times. We plan on staying the night and our hotel is booked in downtown Raleigh on a Friday night. Question is: what are fun things to do? Where is a good place to get a really good margarita? What about a good dinner place and a breakfast place in that area? Any suggestions are welcome and thanks for any input.

What can I do next?

I am in the Dallas burbs but we get to the Raleigh Durham area on occasion.

One of our most favorite restaurants is The Angus Barn in Durham. The steak was one of the best we've ever had and just as good everytime we've been back.

We are quite picky and have some fantastic 5 star restaurants in the Dallas area but we will never pass up an opportrunity for the Angus Barn in Durham.

I don't know what else to do there, it has been a while since we were there. Our 16 yr old daughter is looking into going to Duke and we like that area a lot. Hubby got his MBA from Duke years ago. Love the area.

Have fun.

We love going to Second Empire for a super-fancy occasion. Sullivan's is great too!

For entertainment, we like to go to the NC Symphony, but I don't know if they will be performing on your special night.

I haven't been there, but the previous person mentioned Charlie Goodnight's. I think that sounds fun for a casual and entertaining evening. :) Maybe my husband and I will try that the next time we get a night out.

So, assuming you want to stay downtown, you have a whole bunch to pick from. Restaurants in downtown Raleigh are all over the place, from superduper expensive (Second Empire) to traditional expensive (The Mint) to medium-expensive but very nice (18 Seaboard) to nice Mexican (Jibarra), and on and on until you get to McDonald's. I'm kind of an alternative girl (and vegetarian), and my favorite restaurant is Remedy Diner. I've also heard great things about Mo's as well as Sitti (Mediterranean). I recommend checking out yelp to find a type of restaurant you like in a price range you want. For breakfast, same thing- you can get anything from coffee and a pastry from the Morning Times to a southern breakfast at Finch's. Fun things: music at clubs. That's pretty much it, unless you have tickets to whatever's at the performing arts center. Margaritas: again, try Jibarra. Also, unless you're a 20-something party girl (which you might be, I don't know!), I would avoid the entire Glenwood South part of downtown after about 10 pm. Have fun!

Love Jibarra's margarita's and food for dinner! http://www.jibarra.net/ Can be a little pricey but if it is a special occasion very worth it. It is not your traditional mexican. Dos Taquitos in downtown is great too! http://dostaquitoscentro.com/ If it is the first Friday of the month it is nice to go to Art Space and see the exhibits. They have this the first of every month. Charlie Goodnights is fun if they have a good comedian.

For dinner I definitely recommend The Melting Pot. It is pricey, but you get your money's worth. My hubby and I just had a date night last night for our anniversary and we visited The Melting Pot for the first time considering that it comes highly recommended from friends that we've talked to. It is a fondue restaurant with a very intimate atmosphere. Check out their website http://www.meltingpot.com/
The one in Raleigh is located on Wake Forest Road which is conveniently located to downtown Raleigh. You should give them a try!!!!! I think this has become our "anniversary" location :-)
