My husband and I celebrated 28 years of wedded bliss this past weekend. We decided to go to the Kiss/Def Leppard concert! It was so much fun. Here is my takeaway from the weekend:

Amazing time with hubby! We got to the hotel early had some drinks before and walked over to the Pavilion where the concert was. Stayed the night at the hotel and had a wonderful breakfast. Nice little break from reality!

Def Leppard ROCKS! Honestly, I have always liked them but they were really good in concert. I knew every song and it was awesome!

Kiss does NOT ROCK! I was surprised at how much I did NOT like Kiss! Seriously, their performance reminded me of something you would have seen in 1982. Also, for the record, there comes a time in every man's life when you reach that "certain" age that lycra and platform heels is just not a good look!!! They didn't even play "Beth" GRRR!

So, what concerts have you gone to that surprised you by how good or how bad they were?

What can I do next?

OKAY so I went to Lady Gaga with a friend up in Lake Tahoe last month and I was super hesitant to go. My friend was like I really want to people watch and she said you are going with me. HaHa
Can you say BLOWN away? First off the lady can sing, I was shocked and she really put on a great show. I was expecting something totally different than I saw.
Now the audience was worth going in itself. HOLY MOLY. I can't even begin to explain. haha

Glad you had an amazing anniversary.

I have to agree with you on Kiss. Ugh. Never again. Once is probably enough for this lifetime.
I was a little disappointed with The Police reunion concert a few years back. The music technically was spot on, but it lacked a certain energy I expected. The venue wasn't great, so that was partly to blame. I'm glad I went to the concert though- huge fan, and I did enjoy it. I can say I saw them with all the original members.
Also, Steely Dan. Love them, and still do. Sounded great, but their concert last year was a little humdrum. It took about a hour to get the crowd into it.
Best concerts- Foo Fighters is up there in the top. They played a 3 hour show. I'm not talking about with opening acts. Their sets were 3 hours total. Crazy energy. You really get what you pay for with them.
Page and Plant- wow. The crowd was 3/4 of the fun. All walks of life turned out, and they sounded amazing. I hope for another reunion!

I loved Kiss last time I saw them! (of course, that was the 1990s) (And they played Beth)

My most recent was Billy Joel this past spring. I have always loved his lyrics and music, and his voice has gotten even better with age. It was awesome. In fact, it was so good my girlfriend and I, who went to the concert together, decided on the spot to go and see him again the next month in a nearby city, LOL.

Duran Duran ... still great! Not surprised, but they really do put on a great show.

Least favorite concert: New Order, back in the early 90s. They played for maybe 1/2 hour and were not into performing at all (pretty much just stood there, no audience interaction). They were a favorite of mine and I was so disappointed!

Oooh we love concerts!!! Have rarely been disappointed in a live show, and don't think we've seen anyone truly awful.
Last month was a bummer however, we were supposed to see Aerosmith and they canceled at the last minute due to "health" reasons. Oh well :-(
Happy Anniversary!

My best ever was Sting in upstate New York. It was an outdoor venue and it POURED rain, so he played for an extra 45 minutes to make it up to his drenched fans :) I was right up against the rope separating lawn from the shell, so I had a great view...he was wearing cargo pants and a tank, and I will take that visual to the grave...lol!!!
I have also loved Billy Joel and the Indigo Girls. I saw Smashing Pumpkins live with my college roommate and they were awful- the lead singer was clearly wasted on something or other. It was a train wreck.

The Cars...thought they would be AWESOME?? They STOOD THERE!!! It was soo boring...

Best concert? hhmm...Rush was good. Def Leppard is AWESOME!!!! I've seen them many times over the years and was SSSOOO impressed after Rick Allen came back to play EVEN BETTER after losing his arm!!!

LOL great question and Happy Anniversary.

I totally agree with you regarding KISS. I saw them once in the early 90's (no make up) and once in the late 90's (with make up). They were TERRIBLE both times. Really, they don't rock and haven't really rocked for 25 years. Both concerts were just boring.

Metallica is a band that I have seen many, many times and they are consistently amazing. Every show I've seen is consistently high quality. I saw Green Day last year and they were just awesome in 2013 as they were in 1994.

I was disappointed with the last time I saw Bon Jovi. All the songs sound the same, have the same lyrics, and the show was kind of boring. Used to be a fan, but I'm so very over them.

We went to see Steely Dan Sunday, I'm a fan, but have never seen them, which is shameful considering they're from a town in NY.

Anyway, I enjoyed them, but it wasn't AWESOME, they were kind of, um, antiseptic.

However, like you, Man and I had a total blast together, so it was an excellent connect, you know?

Happy Anniversary!

:)

We also went to the KISS/ Def Leppard concert. My SO is a huge KISS fan and I think even he can admit that they need to hang up their boots..lol!
Now Def Leppard on the other hand, was GREAT! He enjoyed them more than KISS and I never thought that would come out of his mouth.
We went for my daughter's birthday (she is a big music fan like him) and she's also a fan of KISS so I was glad for her that she got to see them once in concert (I would hope this would be one of their last tours)!
Concerning Beth, not sure if it was Ace Frehley or Peter Criss that sang that but since they are no longer in the band, they aren't allowed to sing it. My daugther's favorite KISS song is "Shock Me" and we had to break it to her that they wouldn't be singing that either.
Glad you had a nice Anniversary - I can't wait until we can get away for a date night!

we just had our 28th too!
but geez, we just went to a little restaurant. kiss/DL sounds awesome- except, of course, for gene still being an attention ho. and not playing 'beth'? i'd demand m\y money back!
i love the eagles back in the day. no lasers, no huge sets, no bling, just a bunch of dudes in jeans and boots, singing and playing their hearts out.
as for more recent years, i can't recommend TSO highly enough. what a blast!

I recently took my daughter and a couple of her friends to see Beyonce and Jay Z. It was pretty freaking awesome! I am a die hard rock fan but love Bey too. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed Jay Z. Bey was incredible and so beautiful and sexy! Probably second best concert I've ever seen (my daughter and her friends said it was the best night of their lives, lol. She is 16).

Best ever show? Plant and Page in 1995. It was epic. I've seen some great shows including Def Leppard twice. Stevie Ray Vaughn at a small venue. Rush 3 times, they put on one of the best live performances I've ever seen. Can't even remember all the great shows.

Music has always been big in my family and I have been very fortunate to have seen some great artists.

ohh happy anniversary!!!

The best concert Tyler and I went to was Cheap Trick and Aerosmith.
We have enjoyed Def Leppard about 4 times. Never a disappointing show.

We have seen KISS and were totally disappointed.

Bruce Springsteen puts on a great show.
Bob Seger is great too.

Most surprising concert? Pink. I thought it would be teeny-bopper. It wasn't she really rocked the house.
