Full Bars: Are They Good? Gassy?

I am so tempted to try FULL BARS which claim to fill you up before you eat two meals a day. Do they work? I have IBS and don't need tummy troubles.

What can I do next?

Ok, I can't find any product (ingredient) info on these jokers. I'm going to guess they have a lot of fiber (not soluble) so that's not going to be good for your IBS. Non soluble fiber does make you gassy which will irritate your IBS.

Any bar, in general, that has a lot of fiber/protein will make you gassy. I would stay away from them.

If you're looking to add fiber to your diet, whole psyllium powder is a soluble fiber that most GI doctor's encourage IBS sufferers to use.

Please don't take this the wrong way...anything you eat before a meal will make you feel fuller thus you will eat less at mealtime. My sister eats them and I think it is the craziest idea. Try a banana, a salad or another healthy/high nutrient alternative before mealtime especially with IBS. Why put any unnecessary chemically processed food in your tummy for it to digest? I only share this in love as I would to my own sister, you would probably be better off saving your money. That is just my own two cents.

I wouldn't do it. For one, they're kind of a scam. Why waste your money on something that is only going to work if you keep spending more money and as soon as you stop, it all comes back? They are very likely to irritate your IBS. If you want to feel fuller, drink a whole glass or 2 of water before every meal, or start every meal with a salad. One trick most weight-loss professionals use if to use smaller, lunch-type plates instead of large dinner plates for every meal. If you clean your plate, wait 20 mins. and see if you are still truly hungry...if you are, eat a little more, but if you're not, stop! Pay attention to your body's cues and stop eating BEFORE you feel really full. You will also eat less and feel fuller if you eat protein (meats, dairy, nuts, eggs, etc.) for snacks and meals instead of carbohydrates (crackers, bread, white rice, sweets).

I have eaten full bars before and they do not make me gassy, but everyone is different. They were fine for me (regarding fullness) for an hour or two, but it is not enough to make a meal out of it. Perhaps for breakfast, though. I've never eaten one for my breakfast - just as a snack.

Everyone's stomach is different. I haven't tried these, but my husband eats a different bar he loves and feels full. I drink a protein shake with lots of fiber. They both have soluble fiber. Anyone not used to eating a lot of fiber would get gas until their stomach got used to regular fiber.

So.......if you are wanting to try a bar with a lot of fiber and don't eat a lot of fiber regularly then I would suggest you slowly build up your fiber intake over a couple of weeks first.
