Alright, well my son to me feels hot, hubby said he didn't, but I swear I know when he is radiating heat. As I can't cuddle with him in bed on a already hot day, to a little heater. Nomaly he dont' radiate that much heat. So I use our relion Themomater. Could be the batteries but don't have any more tripple A. Grr. Well. At first it was only taking a 36.6 or somthing in the area of that temp, so I tried it on a differnt part of the body besides the had. knowing another part, like his stomach, would be hotter. Well then it went to this whole ER 1 thing. So I am freeking out. So I try on this forhead this time. Same thing. not having the Directions I am freeking out, as its saying ER. So I check the internet, find nothing quick so I try it again on myself. It pops up ER on me? so I try it another place on myself, ER. hmmm I let it cool down a bit then tried again, got the earlier 36.6 or whatever temp. I don't have another themomater as the other one got broken. I am not sure what to do. I freek out all the time, and hes been this way before and we sat it out. As we took him once to the hospital because a theomomter said he was above average temp. Got to the hospital he was back down. Sighs. Oh And I beleive, though I am not happy tha I didnt' ask and allowed it, got that HIH Or HIm or whatever its called shot last week. The whole H1N1 flu shot thing. Grr. Was told by others he might get a bit of a fever and what not. SO should I run him to the hospital just in case or just watch him closesly this morning to make sure hes alright.?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I know he had a fever, I know how his body act, and when is body is radiating heat, I know what it is, but I gave him som tyllonal and not shorly after it was gone. So he is okay, sleeping but okay. Didn't take him to the doc yet. Thinking, as some one told me, he would probably get a fever and sleep because of that shot. So will wait till he wakes to see how hes doing.

You don't take temps on the stomach or other random places. There are ones that are made for the ear and temple... you can't just choose where to put it. So I suggest going to buy another one and know what kind you have or get the old school one that goes in the bum, or in the mouth...
Hang in there, he will be fine.

I know it's really difficult when you have a sick child, but the first thing you must do is to stop freaking out. That won't help the situation at all and will keep you from being able to think clearly and rationally about what the best thing is to do.

Fevers do serve a purpose as part of the way the body heals itself. That is not to say not to take him to his doc if you feel it's unusually high or he has other symptoms. That's your call and not always an easy one.

If he seems uncomfortable, you can always use cold wash clothes on his forehead and wrists and that can have a cooling effect.

You can always call his doc to inquire the best thing to do once they open.
Most of all, get yourself in a calmer place so you can be there for him in the best way. - Take care.

ER means error on my digital. It probably needs new batteries.

My daughter (12) had swine flu last year. It wasn't fun. Don't be upset over getting him the shot. That flu is horrible.

Before going to any emergency room, I'd stop by a pharmacy and get a new thermometer. My son used to spike high temps (103) and often it would be gone a half hour later without doing anything. It's a temp that jumps high and stays there (over several hours) that would be a cause for concern, and in that case I'd call the pediatrician's office (or on call nurse) and see what they have to say. If a little Tylenol can bring it down, it's still not a reason to panic. The flu itself is much worse than the shot.

ER probably means error. I highly doubt that a thermometer company would put ER meaning go to the emergency room - a thermometer is only for taking a temp not a predictor of a prognosis or action. Relax, take a deep breath and go buy another thermometer :)

What kind of thermometer are you using? Is it the in the ear kind, or the temple kind or something else.
You Thermometer will show ER for error, when you are not using it correctly. It is is meant to measure the temperture on his temple or in his ear, that's where you have to use it.
The measurement of 36.6 sounds like it got converted to Celsius inadvertently. With most thermometers you can choose C or F scale. 36.6 C is a perfectly normal body temp.

I would NOT run him to the hospital. If at all go to the pharmacy and buy a $2 under the arm thermometer!
Good luck!

You don't say how old your son is. You don't say if he's having any other symptoms either. A fever by itself is not a reason to rush to the ER. Fever is the body's way of fighting infection, and until it goes over 100, shouldn't even be treated. Let the body heal itself. My pediatrician never recommended running to the ER unless the fever was over 104 AND I couldn't bring it down with traditional methods (tylenol, motrin, lukewarm washcloths, etc)

IF your child has a fever, it probably isn't much, since you and hubby don't even agree on if he is hot or not. Don't panic, let his body do it's work.

First thing is to relax. Is he having any other symptoms? Does he seem to be in any discomfort? If your answer is no to both of these I would wait a little while. Get some cool liquids in him (not milk incase he does have a fever). This helps because as a fever goes up kids don't want to drink and thier fever increases (drinking can help keep it down) AND it hydrates them. I am not sure how old your son is so assuming he is not an infant (lets say over 2 years) you could give him a little Tylenol just in case. Also, use cool rags on the back of his neck and his feet, if he is running a fever that should help bring it down. When I don't have a thermometer and I think my child has a temp, I use the back of my wrist...unlike your hands that is a spot that is not as subject to feel hot or cold so it gives you a better idea.

Here are some advises from webmd to reduce fever.

"A sponge bath in warm water will help reduce a fever. Put the child in a few inches of warm water and use a sponge or washcloth to wet the skin of the body and arms and legs. The water itself does not cool the child. The evaporation of the water off the skin does, so do not cover the child with wet towels. Encourage the child to drink clear fluids such as non-carbonated drinks without caffeine or juice (not water). Water does not contain the necessary electrolytes and glucose. Other clear fluids are chicken soup, Pedialyte, and other rehydrating drinks available at your grocery or drug store. Tea or other caffeine-containing products should not be used. They act as diurectics and increase urination and fluid loss. This is not the effect you want. Your child should urinate light-colored urine at least every four hours if well hydrated. Also, make sure the child is drinking enough clear fluids (not water).
Also call your son's doctor. If not available, trust your gut and go to the hospital. Better to be safe than sorry.
