Hi, I just got on the ParaGard insert today. I was just wanting to hear how other users are liking it. The procedure went pretty well for me and wasn't too painful or uncomforable. I just need to know any pros or cons other users may have about it.i was going to get my tubes tied cause i have two daughters and dont really want a 3rd child but my doctor thought i was too young (i'll be 21 in october) so he put me on this since it lasts 10 years. thanks!

So What Happened?

Thank you all! i can glad i made this decision. I tried the pill a day birth control after i had my first child in 2009 and lets just say i have problems getting a schedule with anything and i found out i was pregnant with my next child by early 2010. Lol. I dont think the longer periods and more cramps will bother me. I have heavy and severe cramping already so im used to it. its better than another 9 months.

I like my IUD, but be prepared for exceptionally heavy period for the first year--I mean heavier than you can even imagine--they do eventually even out or at least they did for me. For me it's worth it not to have hormones, but it's still kind of a pain.

I had it for Almost a year. Whatever your periods were like when you first got them (before you ever took birth control) that is what your periods will be like now! I wish the Dr mentioned that to me. I had Awful periods 5-8 days Heavy bleeding cramps before and during :-( but that was just Me. Everyone is different! Good luck with it !!!!

I've had it for a year now and I love it. I have a 13 months old son and do not want another baby for at least 3yrs. So Mirena IUD was a good option for me since it lasts 5yrs. Though I had irregular heavy periods for the 1st 4months, It works better for me since I hate the pill or other hormonal ones. I'm very skeptical about having my tubes tied...and yes your doctor was right you are too young for that. I'll probably put the 10yrs one after I'm done with kids but I'm never tying my tubes...you'll never know you may want another kid someday!

I had one, and I'll be getting another (we're done with kids)...

I had it taken out and went back on the pill....long story about improper insertion by my doc, and I freaked out and went back to the pill.
Now I can't wait until my next annual to have it put back in (by another doc).

I've had it since november and I love it. Your periods maybe a little weird for a while (longer or shorter) and I cramp a little longer. My periods are heavier but its so worth it! No pills or condoms or worry. Best decision I've ever made!
