Fleas? Oh My Gosh!

My poor little son has little bites on his feet and a few on his hands. They are itchy, but the are raised and look like blisters. I doubt they are ant bites because he would cry if he got into ants and I would know it.
We have a dog and a cat. I sprayed our yard, bombed the house and treated the animals at the begginning of June to keep them out of the house. Problem is our neighbor has 2 big dogs on chains all the time. I doubt they ever get bathed or treated for fleas. I think that they are attracting fleas to my yard.
What can I do? Any suggestions on what to use to get rid of them. It is so gross and I'm horrified that my poor little son has these bites on him.
What can I use to treat the bites on my poor little son. I can't get him into the doctor until Thursday.

Fleas are worse this year then ever. The rain will bring them inside which is even more of a pain. Continue to treat your pets and yard, it will help.
I use a mix of equal parts baking soda and salt on my carpets. You just sprinkle it on, leave for about 12 hours, vaccum up then throw away the bag or empty the canister and immediately take the trash out. You do that once a week for 4 weeks straight and you will get two life cycles of the fleas. You can also place that mixture on paper plates and set them under your couch and other areas. The salt damamges the eggs and the baking soda makes it so the fleas cannot breath.
There is also a great pest guy in Plano. You buy the stuff and do it yourself. Years ago when we bought our house he sold us some great stuff that was safe for the kids and pets and we sprayed our entire house and it killed all the fleas.

The only thing that worked for us was getting Advantix for our dog...but I don't think it's safe for cats. We were faithful Fronline users in VA where we moved from b/c it was strongest for ticks which were more of a problem up there, but down here in TX it didn't deter the fleas at all and we're not as worried about ticks here (which he'd get ticks when on Advantix in VA).

Cortisone cream, calamine lotion, ice packs on the area to reduce swelling, and I have even heard Vicks Vapo rub and Preperation H help too.

Cap Star is good for giving your pets after they have come in from a park or lake, or vet/grooming. It kills fleas instantly, but it is not a preventive. It just helps to not introduce live fleas to a clean area.

Advantage, Frontline, Revolution, are all great. I like Revolution the best since it also prevents against heartworms and intestinal parasites as well.

I worked in a vet clinic and many people have this problem. Keep bombing house and the pets' sleeping areas, vacuum a lot and treat your yard, and also keep your dogs treated, and the fleas problem should decrease. I know, this year is really bad!

Oh my gosh, I had same problem. My 3 years old was bitten all over her ankles and a few bites on her hands. And we don't have animals! We were bringing them from outside. I was checking my husband coming back from the yard and he had a few of them on his pants. Yukkk! We had Pest Pro company come out twice within 2 weeks becasue we could not get rid of them. They sprayed the second time with higher strengh solution. It seemed to help and get them out of the yard and house. We sprayed the yard and carpets with stuff from HomeDepot but it did not work. They told us to vacum the carpet daily for a couple of weeks. And we did and I HOPE the problem is gone. I am kind of glad to hear that it is not only me having those little pests problems. My daughter's bites are still healing (it was about 3 weeks now! since the fleas are gone). Strange is thatneither me or my husband got bitten. Anyway... vacuum a lot! And I hope they will be gone soon. The Pest company said it was becasue of all that rain that we got the infestation is going crazy around the town!

We are having the same infestation as you~ Its crazy. We have tried alot of things and nothing has worked so far. My dad told me to go to a feed store and buy sulfur and it will make the fleas leave. Also to just keep giving the dog flea baths and flea collars. Also pour Borax 20 Mule laundry detergent on your carpet and let it set for 24hrs and then vaccum it up and it kills the fleas and the eggs. Try some of those things that is all i have found that kinda works. I think everyone has fleas now and there just not leaving!

Hi K.,
I just saw a segment on the News the other night about fleas this year being worst than ever and people's flea meds are not working as good as they used too. They said we're seeing more and more of them from all the rain, humidity and heat.

I had a pretty bad infestation recently and the only thing that worked for me was the Vet flea meds. (Advantage or Frontline Plus)
I found a guy on Craigslist who sells the Frontline Plus really cheap and they worked great on my dogs and cats. I'm not sure what all he has left but he said he gets them randomly so you might want to send him an email.

After using the meds I didn't have to bomb my house or treat the yard because the meds work so good.
It was just a big pain having to give them flea baths daily and almost the very next day the fleas would be back!
Also, a Vet had said on the news she recommends re-applying the vet products every 3 weeks now instead of the usual 4 weeks.
Let me know if you need the guys contact info and you can check and see if he has anymore meds.

As far as your little ones flea bites, try sraying them with some hair spray.
I know it sounds weird but it will stop the itch and was something I learned very young that has always worked well when my kids have any bites.
Good luck and hope you get rid of them fast!
