First Molars Coming In? Painful?

My 5 and a half year old has been complaining that it hurts and pointing to the back of her mouth, where I would think molars would come in. Is this a usual age for the first molars to appear, and did your kids complain of any pain when getting theirs? I just want to make sure there isn't something else going on here...

What can I do next?

Yes, they can be really sore, tender and sometimes even feel like little needles are coming through..

Sometimes they will have an ear ache, headache. and even though the Dentist will say no way.. a slight fever..

I had no idea they got more molars about the same time as they lose their first front teeth.

I'm about to go through this with my almost 5yo (she's about to lose her first baby teeth), so I'll be keeping an eye out for the molars.

It's about the right time. I don't recall my GD complaining of pain. If it gets too bad, you might take her to the DDS for x-rays to be sure there is enough room and that the molars are not pushing her other teeth out of place,

They call them "6 year" molars so having them begin to move at 5 sounds in the right range.
My oldest we actually went out and bought him a couple teethers that had no liquid in them for him to bite on because they really were bothering him that much. It was just like when he was teething as a baby. Had to give him Tylenol and the whole nine yards. My second son was an easier teether as a baby and he only noticed them when he could start feeling them with his tounge. My third is still too young to be getting them but if how she was as a baby is any indication we may be in for a rough time.
Babies can't verbally tell you they hurt and how much. We have to read all the other clues. At 5 they can tell us and I would believe them.

Make sure there are no dark spots on her teeth which would mean cavities and you can have her ears checked as they can cause pain in the jaw and teeth. Sinuses can cause pain in the teeth and jaw too.
