When my children were too young to do much, I would trace their hands and feet. I would then label each foot or hand with their initials and "left" or "right" foot/hand. It has ALWAYS been a hit for every recipient.
My kids are older now, but they still enjoy tracing their own hands and feet and labeling them.
good luck

I made my husband a photo book on shutterfly that had a ton of first year memories and showed my daughter and he growing up together. He loved it and still pulls it out to look at the photos - as she gets older she'll look at it too.

For my husband's first Father's Day I gave him a "Father's" ring. Actually it was a couple's ring (a band) but instead of putting mine and my husband's names, I put the names of our two son, Isaiah and Elijah. Both names were accented by their birthstones at the end of each name. It is a sterling silver band and it was very economically priced. The name of the website company is www.limoges.com and they have lots of "Fathers" jewelery to choose from. My husband loves it and wears it everyday on his right hand. All his friend's were envious since they had never heard of or seen such a thing as "Fathers" jewelry; needless to say, it made my husband feel all the more special. Take a look, this company has specials going on all the time! Good luck!!

Hi C.,
Fathers Day has become one of my favorites since we've had our babies! You're going to LOVE it!
Every year, we make daddy breakfast in bed. He gets to sleep in and lay in bed and watch whatever sport his heart desires.
As far as gifts I have always got him 2 things, (since I was pregnant with our first). 1 gift for him, a movie he wants, CD, or something a little nicer if I have the money. 2nd gift is always something he can do with our boys, (may be a little more tricky if you have girls). It's always a little baseball bat or little baseball glove, little football, frisby. You could even do tickets to a movie for him and your son or theme park when he's a little older. All these gifts sort of sat until our son was about 2 or so. Then it was so cute.
No matter what you choose, it will be your tradition and it will be special. Have fun!

Hi C.,
I "stole" one of my husband's shoes and a tie and took my son to KiddieCandids for a professional photo session (w/o my husband knowing). We surprised daddy with a very cute photo of the baby wearing only a diaper, daddy's tie, and the shoe next to him. They added "happy father's day" to the printed photo. I can send you the photo if you'd like to get an idea.

We always wake up Daddy with presents and then we have breakfast out. Homemade cards, homemade presents, etc. The kids get SO excited!

We did shirts one year with the kid's handprints on it and it ready, World's greatest Dad. He wore it so much that it faded!

Since my husband's first Fathers Day, I did my daughter's handprint on a stepping stone. They have inexpensive kits at Michael's or any other craft store. Every year we do our kids' handprints on stepping stones and place them around our backyard. He loves looking at them every time he's out in the garden or when he's mowing the lawn/gardening.

Hi C., how old is your son? My husbands first fathers Day. our first born was only 8 months old, so what I did was i got a piece of poster board, and made a big card for him, and on the front it had our sons hand prints, in between both hand prints, I placed a picture of the first time he held our son at the house, and in one corner I put a picture of a boat, because one of the first things my husband said when our son was born was can't waith to take him fishing, the front of the card basically describe my husbands first thoughts and dreams where our son was concerned, the inside of the card and a picture of him and I, and I had writin a Father's Day Poem for him. And we had the family over for a barbeque, so we could celebrate with my dad as well, our first born son is now 25 and my husband still has the card. J. L.

I've made it a tradition that each year my children and I give my husband at least one piece of camping equipment or something camping related on father's day. We also started a new tradition last year. My children and I went to a party supply place and purchased a big velvet King Henry VII type crown for my husband to wear on his special day.

Hi C.!

For my husbands first Father's Day I had my daughters hand & footprint done in ceramic. It came out beautiful and he absolutely LOVED it! I also got him a digital frame and put pictures in it from the day she was born to the present.

The place where I got the hand/footprint is called Doodlebug Designs. They did a great job and it was rather inexpensive. Something that will last a lifetime!

Hi C.,

For one of our first Father's Days we went to brunch at a restaurant next to Petco Park then went to the baseball game. I just purchased the park passes so we just had a blanket on the grassy hill, which is perfect for babies and kids. My husband loved it***
I'm anxious to hear what you decide to do! I need some ideas too:)

Hi C.
For our 1st fathers day I got matching shirts for all of us and then we went to the Del Mar Fair. We did lots of photos during the day and I then made a small photo book of the day. It was fun to see us all in matching shirts in the pictures and it became a tradation.
Have a great fathers day....Im sure whatever you decide to do will be well appreciated!

Hi C.!
Congrats to you for wanting to make your hubby feel special! I made a small photo album for my husband with pictures of our son and him and a little poem with "D is for ______, A is for _______, D is for ________, and so on to spell out DADDY and each page of the album had a letter and a picture that went with it. It turned out very cute and he loved it. Enjoy your first mother's day. Hope daddy is putting just as much thought into that.

Hi, you can do memory books with pictures of just daddy and the baby. Our son's second Father's day, I dressed him up in his Dodgers shirt and shorts, took him to Babie's R'us and they took the cutest pictures of him in a wagon with a baseball and bat. We ordered pictures, plus the picture on a baseball. Then they give you a little holder for the ball that's a mit. It was a really great idea and daddy loved it. They also have football's etc.

My daughter was only 2 months old for my hubby's 1st father's day. I wrote him a poem as if it were coming from her perspective. Then I took the very first picture of them together from the day she was born. It was him looking at his new baby for the 1st time. (still melts my heart). I combined the pic and the poem on to one page, printed it and framed it for him. He is not an emotional guy, but he got choked up when he saw it. It is hanging on our wall and every time we look at it, it brings a smile to our faces.

One thing that I did for my husband was make him a homemade card "from baby" (it said things like; thank you for being such a good Daddy, etc...), and then made my daughter "sign" it by putting her footprint on it (they have washable ink at wal-mart or whatever...). If your son is old enough to hold a crayon, have him make his own little mark on it as a signature instead ;) My husband really thought this was cute.
