J. unfortunately I don't have any words of real comfort but I wanted to respond because my sister is going through this very same thing. She has been to hell and back with this and after 3 different opinions she is going to have to have a full hysterectomy. If you would like to talk more you can email me at ____@____.com They tried lots of other things but it just didn't work. In fact the ones they did get to shrink have grown back bigger than the first time. Good luck dear

I may not have a lot of answers for you, but I can offer understanding and support. I was diagnoses with fibroids a while back, and I finally going to see a specialist (actually an RE) to discuss the next step. Many women have fibroids (some do not even know that they have them), and it is a non-issue in their lives. If you are planning on having more children, or experiencing pain from them, that is when it does become an issue. There are meds that shrink the fibroids, and the pill may also help (as they feed off of estrogen). I would talk to your OB, go for an ultrasound, and discuss options. Let me know what you find out.

I would head to your OB/GYN or a specialist. No disregards to the ER, but they don't specialize in this, and thats what you need.

I have a similar condition. You need to make an appointment with your OBGYN to discuss your options. Just because the ER doctor said you have polycystic fibrosis, he may have made an assumption because this disease is hard to diagnosis without ruling out several things. There are many different disorders we women can have with our lovely reproductive systems and many different ways of dealing with them. One way is to treat the symptoms (antidepressants can actually help to reduce the pain sensors in your brain, so that you can function regularly), you can have a tubal and MEA, etc. All of this before even looking at a hysterectomy. Don't be scared. Just go to a doctor who specializes in this area and get the right answers and choices available for you first.

Honestly, if an ER Dr. told you this, I'd get more opnions, from OB/GYNs!! When I was pregnant, the ER Dr. I had, didn't even really know how to read my sonogram!! Most def get seen by your regular OB/GYN and a specialist! These days I'd think you have more options!! Just try to keep your head up why making your rounds of Dr. appoinments, and try to be positive!! Good Luck and hope it all works out for the best!!

Although I didn't have fibroids, I did end up with a hysterectomy at the very young age of 24 SCAREY!!!!! but the best thing I had ever done I felt so much better, no more pain, 9and the added advantage of not needing birth control) (HURRAY!). Down falls oh yes no more children period! but you do feel so much better.

It isn't as bad as the doctors make it out to be. I was told more than three years ago that I had four fibroids the size of baseballs.I was also told that I would never be able to get pregnant as long as I had them. I am the mother of a very handsome 10 month old boy. My best advice to you is to seek a second option. I have had wonderful luck with the docs at the Multi-specialty Clinic t St. Luyke's on the Plaza. Also do lots of research. As someone who comes from a medical family, docs always give the worst case senario. Good luck.

J., I have PCOS and recently was found to have a fibriod. First off, make sure the Dr you are seeing is a specialist that deals with the issues you are facing. I' definitely get another opinion especially when a Dr. is talking about removing my uterus. I can tell you more about PCOS if u like. Email me at ____@____.com

J.,

I am so sorry to hear this. I too was diagnosed with Fibroids when I was 29 and I am now 32. I chose to have the hysterectomy last July after my husband and I talked and decided that we were certain that we were done having kids. I was not ready to do that at 29, so I can only imagine how you are feeling right now.
First thing, I would definitely go to your regular OB/Gyn and have him/her diagnose you. ER docs are sometime mistaken. Afterwards, he/she will help you and discuss other options other than a hysterectomy.
Some other options that I had included hormones and D&Cs.
I wish you the best and will be thinking of you often. Good Luck.

I can't really comment on the PCOD but I can give you my bit on fibroids. I was diagnosed with a fibroid tumor when I was 4 wks. pregnant with my first. 6 mos. into the pregnancy they found another. They gave me about 3-5 days of pain during pregnancy and that was it - even though they grew and grew (one the size of a cantaloupe, the other a soft ball). I have given birth twice vaginally (luckily they are diagonal from each other on my uterus). I am now pregnant with #3. Depending on location a c-section is sometimes the only birth option. My OBGYN would like to remove them after I am done having children. (I have opted not to have them removed yet because if scar tissue forms it can hinder getting/staying pregnant.) They are not dangerous, just uncomfortable at most and from all the research I've done and what my Dr. has told me, they are pretty harmless. Hope some of this is helpful, just try not to worry.

HI J.,
I am an RN an have also dealth with something similar I am 35 and am going to be having a hysterectomy. I am familiar with both diagnosis. The fibroids well... you do need your uterus taken out of course that means no more children however they can leave your ovaries behind as long as they are healthy and this will prevent you from going through menopause at such and early age. I opted for this myself leaving my ovaries behind. They can take your uterus vaginally as long as it is not to large and you have do not have a large amount of scar tissue from previous surgeries on your abodomen. These are some ideas that you may discuss with your physician. As far as the polycystic ovarian disease it can usually be managed with medication. I hope that this at least gives you a place to begin to have and idea of what questions you might need to ask.
God Bless
M.

Hi J.,

I had a hysterectomy when I was 23 years old due to sever endometriosis that was causing me so much pain that i could not have intercourse with out sever pain and that i was having to take a percocet to even get up in the mornings, with 3 kids and 1 under the age of one at the time that was not very feasible! I am now 31 so 8 years later I have had alot of experiences with getting hormones regulated and other issues. I would be glad to talk with you more about this or answer any questions you might have.

FIRST OF ALL GET A 2ND AND THEN 3RD OPINION !! Hopefully at least 2 of the 3 will be about the same. Next, ask yourself if the 2 kids are enough. If they are then you really have nothing to lose and everything to gain!! I had a total hysterectomy at age 29... I sure dont miss the monthly cramps, bloating and worrying if I have tampons.. If they can have them leave at least one ovary it will help with your hormones and you will have more eggs IF you decide later you want another child. I just have one that will be 18 next week and believe me, he was more than enough for me to handle however I know God knew that way before my surgery...

My prayers are with you,
M.

I would go see your GYN for a second opinion. The ER doc may not be the best source of information.
