I have a mixed set of Henckles & Wusthoff.
These are knives that stay perfect for generations. It's mixed because I buy knives piece by piece (couple hundred per knife), and my brother in Germany bought me some at the factory in zwilling.
I'm looking to replace my 10 year old knife set. Any brand/store that you love? I am willing to spend a little extra for a good set.
Thanks for your input:)

My first Mother's Day present, 17 yrs ago, was a set of Henckels Professional (the top of the lines ones.... about $500 with a coupon at Bed Bath and Beyond)
They are still like new. GREAT knives. GREAT Henckels warranty. In the past 17 yrs, 2 have had an issue... 1 blade broke (because hubby was using it with hard ice cream) and another handle cracked. BOTH times, Henckels replaced both knives at no charge other than the minimal postage I paid to ship the knives back to them.
I LOVE these and someday when my daughter marries or just has her own place...... she will get the top of the line Henckels and top of the line All-Clad pots and pans.
These are sold at major department stores and specialty knife shops as well.
Heckles we received them 12 years ago for our wedding. We have added a few more knifes over the years. By far Macy's has the best price.. And next week Macy's has their friends and family sale where knifes are not excluded in sale ;)
Back when I felt richer, I bought three Henckels. Beautiful knives.
The price at Macy's below seems really good for all those Henckels.
The best knives you can get are Cutco. They aren't sold in stores only through reps. I have knives that my Mom and Aunt bought in the 60's that they replaced this year. They have a lifetime warrenty. You can go to their website www.cutco.com.
You won't be sorry.
I don't have a set, I've acquired the knives individually based on what I actually use. Most of them were bought at a restaurant supply store and have great heft and balance. My newest fav is a Japanese veggie knife, cuts though veggies better than anything else, but the thin blade is not meant for meat and bones.
I own Cutco knives. They're exceptional knives and have a forever guarantee. They still look brand new, and I've owned them for 13 years.
I've also used Henckles and Wusthof knives. They are just as awesome as Cutco for a similar price. Keep in mind, properly cared for these knives can last a lifetime. You'll be spendng a pretty penny, but you won't be buying them again in 10 years.
I have this set from Macy's which is also henckels, I got it 2 years ago when I got married from my mom. As you can see they are on sale for a great price! I'd get them!!

Shun - hands down, the very BEST knives you can get. Williams-Sonoma often has sales on certain sizes of these wonderful knives. They can be rather expensive otherwise. I buy them for friends and family as gifts because I love them so much! Keep them razor sharp and they will last forever.
This might be cheesy, but I love my set of "Miracle Blades"..I have had them for 10 years, and they still cut as well as they did when I first bought them. I've never had to purchase another set..
Well, my favorite knife is a Chicago Cutlery serrated blade with a wood handle. My 2nd favorite is a giant white handled Dexter that was picked up at Sam's. My 3rd favorite(s) are vintage Ecko pairing knives that were my mom's. Been sharpened 8 billion times but I bet you could perform surgery with em'. Yes, my knife rack looks like the island of misfit knives.
Got these J A Henckels knives 7 years ago and they are great.

My MIL has great taste and has bought most of all my nicest kitchen stuff and she bought us a 'Wustof' set that has been good.
