hi ladies, i hate to ask this, it's so embarrassing, but i have to. i have alternated between hair removal cream, and plucking the hair underneath my chin. i am constantly broken out under there! does one cause less ingrown hairs than another? it almost seems like the cream works better, but there are always left-behinds that i STILL have to pluck anyway. so half the time i just pluck them all. help! :( i don't want a wax or and laser is too expensive, i want the best option for easy at home removal. thanks in advance!!

What can I do next?

I shave my chin in the shower. I know lots of people say not to do that because the hairs will just grow back thicker or you'll get a scruffy chin. I haven't noticed either to be true, and I've been doing this for about 20 years. For me, it's just so much quicker, easier, less painful and it doesn't irritate my skin.

My hair is pale, but I've always had a number of wiry ones under my chin. I've simply made a habit (at bedtime, for me) pluck whatever I can feel growing out. If I don't do this, I'll 'worry' the grow-outs with my fingers and give myself red owies. Got myself a really good tweezer and keep it honed by pulling very fine-grit sandpaper through it a couple of times a month.

I understand exactly how you are feeling! I used to shave my chin a bit and upper lip, but I wouldn't recommend it at all, the hair does grow back darker and coarser. Tweezing will work but there are better options. I have been doing electrylosis for a few years now, I realize you want something at home though. I would suggest waxing as your best choice, you can do it at home. The hair stays away longer, grows back lighter and softer through time, although I have no idea really how long. It is painful for a few seconds but looks so much better. Check into a home waxing kit of some type.

my two best friends and i have made a pact....we all plunk and pull and do whatever to keep the hairs away...never shaving though. but our pact is that we feel comfortable with each other to tell each other if we see the dreaded long black hair on each others chin.!!! maybe getting a good friend to help you!!!

Surgi brand wax.. sold at drug stores or online at drugstore.com. wax takes 3 or 4 times to get the hang of at home.. when u microwave wax.. let it cool enough so not super hot and runny.. you want it warm and plyable.. do it at night.. also this wax is not expensive 6 dollars a jar.. I swear by it.

I have a Tweeze. It's kind of painful to use, especially when doing the upper lip, but it works really well.

Wax strips that you can get at Walmart work the best for me, even though you don't want them. They're easy to use and leave very little residue that is easily removed with the enclosed soothing gel.

I tweeze. I don't drive (so I guess I won't be humiliating my kid...loved Sue H's post!), so I try to catch the mirror when the sunlight is good in the bathroom.

I also find that if I let them grow out just a bit (not horribly much), I'm less likely to get ingrown hairs. I think this usually happens because when the hair is so small, plucking only breaks off the tip of the hair and don't pull out the root.

What's the deal with the hair? I just found one dark hair in the last year on my face. I pluck it every 8-10 days. Then a couple weeks back, my 10 year old pointed out some long ones under my chin. I plucked them and they haven't come back yet. I'm 44. Am I getting them late or right on time?

I tweeze...I hate it too, I have heard that sugaring is easier on your skin? Could be worth a try.

I had a doctor tell me tweezing could cause infections around your face like that. I would use it as a last resort.

I use the cream and tweeze in between waxing. I know I can wax my upper lip, chin and eyebrows at home but it is cheap if I go to the beauty school I think it was $5 for my upper lip and about the same for the eyebrows. Chin was a little more. I am a chicken when it comes to the discomfort. It looks so much better after waxing and I think lasts longer. I only go about 1x a month. Sometimes I will go twice....Happy waxing.
