Ugggg every few months i feel like i have another sign of aging! i try to count my blessings with my health and stay positive but this past weekend in the hotel magnifying mirror i spotted 3 black hairs above my lip. i've always had just a bit of light colored peach fuzz but never dark hairs. What is the best way for removal as i'm concerned about them growing back thicker, darker etc….

Many years ago, I had electolysis on a moustache. It was a little painful, but it was permanent because it kills the hair follicle. Nowadays, laser hair removal may be the solution although electrolysis is still available. Groupon frequently runs hair removal packages.

I get short, dark, coarse hairs on my chin. I pluck them with tweezers.

As we age our body hairs turn darker and thicker. Nothing we do to them changes them. These hairs will continue to darken and get thicker/courser simply by being hair on an aging body...sorry.

I pluck mine. If that doesn't suit you there are tools you can buy that will remove them such as electrolysis things or the NO-NO.

Plucking is best for now, but you want to laser zap them before they turn gray. Once they're gray, they can't be zapped and you'll look like a cat when you're too old and senile to pluck. I recommend the Tria. Yes, it's $500, but if it takes more than one zap at professional laser place (and it could take 6 or 7 appointments to get it totally gone), you'll spend way more having someone else do it. With your own you can zap those 'til they're gone and any future hairs too.

If you let them grow, shave them, and then zap them, and they're really black, they'll be way lighter and thinner in three zaps and gone for good in 5 or 6 or so.

It is a complete myth that shaving will change the texture of your hair. I shave mine (on my chin) in the shower each day. Takes about 2 seconds, doesn't cost money and doesn't hurt a bit.

Think about it. If shaving hair off your body really made it thicker and darker, why would any man ever be bald?

Also, the plastic surgeon on the doctors said you cannot change the color and texture of your hair by shaving it. It's genetics. There's nothing you can do to keep it from becoming thicker or darker if that's what it's going to do.

If it's just the 3 hairs, use a tweezer and pluck them out. Two seconds and you're done. You might have to do it again in a few days or a week, but whatever, it's not going to take you all day. Just add it to your daily routine - apply eye cream, check for hairs, etc...

There are a number of at home laser hair removal systems available now, through sephora, bed bath and beyond, amazon. Depending on your skin tone, you might be able to use them for dark hairs. Might be the a better alternative to taking time and booking appointments at a laser clinic or electrolysis center.

Personally, if it were three hairs, I would tweeze.

You can try Jolene Bleach. It's good for upper lip hair. It blondes it up (don't leave it on any longer than the directions call for) and it also softens them.
