Eyebrows.

I have been revamping my makeup look lately in favor of a more subtle/professional look. I really like some of he changes I have made, buuut now I'm not sure what to do with my eyebrows.

I have always pretty much left them alone- except for plucking the strays. I am happy with the general shape of them, but they are kind of long and pretty thick. (The individual hairs, not the overall eyebrow.) I'm wondering if I'm "supposed" to trim them or something. Sometimes they like to misbehave, and will curl up/downward and look goofy. (Especially in the morning... I have bed head and bed face. Lol.)

I have a makeup-savvy friend who says to brush them upward, then trim off the excess length, and use a brow liner to fill in if needed... But I'm scared to do so because what if it looks horrible and I have to wait for them to grow back? It's well and good for my friend because she spends an hour on makeup daily anyway, where I'm barely willing to spend 10-15 on it... Low maintainance is a huge plus for me.

In light of this dilemma, I thought I would see what you lovely "normal" moms do. :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks mommas! I think I will look around he area for someone to do my eyebrows, then maintain them... My SIL and I were thinking of taking my DD and having a girl's day out, so maybe I will get them done then. :)

Rosebud... Lol. I'm anything but petite... I was often told I would make a perfect Hermione Granger, but red-headed and countrified. (I'm even nerdy and studious. Lol.) Isn't it funny how we get images in our head of people? ;)

Don't cut them short...just in line with the rest of the brow. This is what I do with mine. I'll brush them up, and trim anything that sticks up higher than the top of the rest of the hair.

Have a professional do them the 1st time. Keep an eye on what she's doing, and you can do it after that.

the first time you do anything like this go to a salon and have them do them. so you know the general shape you want. don't try to do it yourself. my daughter in laws grandmother tried to do it and ended up pretty much minus eyebrow on one side. she looked like a clown for a while. finally went and had them tattooed on. but just for the first time have someone professional do it.

Yes brush them straight up. Anything that sticks up above your natural brown outline trim off. Use tiny curved cuticle scissors.

My eyebrows are fairly thick, and I do what your friend does. You don't have to trim off very much, just the long stragglers, and it won't look abnormal at all unless you cut them really short. It won't look horrible, don't worry.

I never pictured you as the bushy-eyebrow type, M.. When I think of the name M., I envision someone very petite and coiffed, with manicured eyebrows. But it's probably time to de-bush the eyebrows.

If they are long enough to curl, I would trim them.

I would do as suggested and get them professionally arched first and then refer to the video for maintenance.
The below tutorial has helped me in that area. I have done a lot of make up revamping as well and I have found a lot of make inspiration on Pinterest of course!

I get my eyebrows waxed, but mine definitely grow too long and need to be trimmed before they need to be waxed again.

So, my husband trims them for me.

MandA M described it well. Just trim off the excess. You don't need to cut them short, just short enough that they don't stick out and give you that wild/untamed look.

A little brush like an old clean mascara brush/brow brush an comb combo with a tiny dot of hair gel can get those fuzzies back in order. You can also go to a pro and get them done up right and just do the upkeep yourself.

You can use brow sealer or clear mascara to tame curled hairs.

You could get a brow trimmer if you are scared to trim with scissors.

Search for Philips trimmer on Target's site to see what I mean.

Use an old tooth brush and brush them towards your hairline. You'll see some really long ones. Clip those with a pair of small scissors. As you do this every 2-3 weeks you'll gain confidence and see which ones are crazy and growing in an odd direction. I have about 3 long eyebrow hairs that do this and when I see them making a more prominent appearance I simply pluck that one or two. That really helps my overall look appear tidier.

If you don't want to clip the longest stray ones then at least the good brushing towards the hair line will help your eyebrows to all point the same way.

When I have mine waxed or threaded, they routinely trim them as well. It wouldn't add to your daily routine. If you trim them, you can trim every 6-8 weeks or so.

I got my eyebrows done by a professional (one of those brow threading places) and then followed that line to keep my brows in check. If you are uncertain, have someone show you the first time.

I, too, suggest to trim them. That makes a huge difference and works very well for the low-maintenance face. If you are good enough to do it yourself, have someone else do it and show you how. Don't let someone do something drastic that you can't maintain. Ask your friend to help you with that. Eyebrows tend to grow fast; the RIGHT filler will tide you over, should you require it.

I do my own brows and get compliments from stylists. I like low maintenance, as well. It might take a while of experiementing with different products to find the perfect fit, but it'll be well worth it. Good luck.

I have thin eyebrows, so I could not imagine combing and cutting them.

Every so often, I get them professionally waxed and shaped.

I just have to MAKE sure I tell the lady to keep them thick. Once, a lady waxed them "thin"--They looked awful.

I fill them in with eyeshadow every am.

Then, I dust a very light pale all over my eyes lids to look like I am 29 again....

I have thick unruly brows. I like to go get them threaded every so often. I think the results are the best for me in terms of shape, when I go to the Indian ladies. I have one specific lady I like to use.

Yes, you can trim them yourself and your friends advice is how I would do it.

If you are going to do it yourself, youtube search eyebrow shaping.

Eyebrow waxing/threading only costs about $6 here, and I only need to have it done every 2-3 months. I would have it done by a professional first and watch how they do it.

Google a benefit brow bar in your area. It will be worth the small splurge. It sounds like you need a good trim. They will do that for you and make it look very good!
