Can anyone share experiences with the Paragard IUD? How long have you used, happy, unhappy, anyone have had to remove their IUD?
How about anyone who uses or has used the Mirena IUD?

Thank you.

Thanks,
F.

So What Happened?

Thanks to all that responded. I am happy you are all happy with your IUD and not experiencing any ill affects. I've had my Paragard IUD for 13 mths and am experiencing symptoms that resemble peri menopause. I don't know for sure if it is from the IUD but my gyne says "no" while her nurse says "that most definitely it is from the IUD."

Just wondering which way to go now. I'm considering having it removed.

Thanks for your time.

Hello, I have the Mirena IUD. I love it now, but when I had it first put in I was emotional from it. They say that happens and that it can take up to 3 months to even out. It took me three months. I almost had my ob/gyn take it out but she said give it some time and I am glad I did. I have no problems now and its great!! I do recomend it but be ready for a possible emotional roller coaster ride.
Hope I could help you out!!

I have the Mirena inserted after my third child. (3 1/2 yrs ago) I absolutely love it. I did stop getting my period after about 6 months. I have been on the pill, the patch and with the Mirena you dont have to remember to insert anything or take anything daily. Highly recommend.

I have the Mirena IUD. I would like to make note that the hormones contained are for the uterus only! This is to stop your period. Unlike the pill where the hormones affect your entire psyche.

My experience has been pretty good. The pros are not remembering to take a daily pill and the 5 year maximum. Eventually, I will have no period at all. Right now I have a barely noticeable flow. However, it lasts up to 7 days. Before I had Mirena my period was about 3 days but that was also pre-baby.

The cons are I have breakouts on my face and back. I NEVER have had these before but this is a side affect of Mirena. However, this does not affect everyone. The period cramps are pretty uncomfortable but only for about a day. Also, for the fist month I bled every day. Sex was initialy painful but also lasted about a month.

Hope this helps.

I completely agree with Beth, Paragard is wonderful. I have had mine since Oct.2005. I have not had any complications nor any side effects. I have the 10yr copper one. Just because I have three children 6yrs,4yrs and soon 2yrs. My family size is just perfect. I wanted a birth control that was reliable and this was is. No hormones or bloating, weight gain. Just perfect. I was in the Dr. Office and 45mins back at work within 20mins after. Best Wishes with your decision.

I had a Mirena IUD for a few months. I was one of the cases where my body rejected it and expelled it. It was comfortable until then and did work. I did have it removed. On the other hand, my cousin has had hers for over a year with no complications.

Hi F.!
I have had the paragard since October. I am thrilled with it. I had a baby in Sept and had this inserted at my 6 week check up. It was easily inserted and didn't hurt at all. I wanted a birth control that was reliable . . .this is it. I don't even have to think about it (well, just to check on the placement once a month). My husband and I are not sure if we want more children (we have 2 children), and this seemed to be the best and safest for us!

I have had no problems with it. The reason I chose this one and no the mirena was simply because I am a mad woman when I get hormones. I wanted something without hormones.

I did reseach on both of them and got great responses. I have friends who have had theirs taken out (they wanted more children) and I am told that its a simple procedure to take it out (easier than getting it put in, actually!).

Good luck with your decision!
B.
