Hi, my husband and I have decided that our family is complete and I'm considering having the Essure procedure done. Has anyone had this? I would love to hear your experiences, both positive and negative.
thanks!

OMG-did you go to the website? I am nauseous thinking about this tampering with nature-literally implanting two foreign objects in your body that will over time close your fallopian tubes-in the meantime-you can actually conceive-this does look permanent but risky to me-even though it does not invlove surgery or hormones. Can't your husband have a vasectomy? It is often reverasable. I would give this careful thought. Good luck.

I had it done. Super easy procedure BUT I was knocked out for it. SOME doctors do it in their office but mine doesn't.

The only 'weird' thing is you go in for an internal x-ray and there's the doctor, the x-ray tech and some other person. They show you that the dye STOPS and the procedure worked. It was pretty interesting.

I would do it again in a hearbeat!

Type it into the search on Mamapedia. Others, including myself, have asked about this before. There's some good info on here!

Hi J.,

Just had the procedure done two weeks ago. Although I cannot comment on the Ultrasound that is needed in 3 months, the procedure itself was painless. I don't remember a thing! My doctor gave me a sedative so I wouldn't feel anything or remember anything. Recovery time was short! The following day I had some mild cramping, pretty similar to menstrual cramps but other than that, I felt great. The second day following the procedure, I was back to normal. I have had some friends who have had the procedure done and they went back to work the following day and did not experience any cramping at all. I guess everyone is different. I had the procedure done on a Friday so I had the week-end to recover just in case but I know that I would of been okay to return to work the following day if I had had it done during the work week.

I had the procedure done five years ago and it has worked wonderfully for my family. I had it done two months postpartum in my doctor's office and it was completely painless. The sedative was so mild that I was able to nurse within a few hours of having the procedure done. The only caveat was that my doctor warned me that I wouldn't be allowed to drive myself home. If that is the worst "side effect" of having the procedure, I think it's very much worth it. There's no health risk associated with the procedure but you do have to use an alternate method of birth control (condoms) for two months until the doctor confirms that the procedure is a success. If I'd waited for my husband to have a vasectomy, I'd likely have at least two more children by now. LOL! For our family this was the right procedure for us. It's very non-invasive and was much preferred to tubal ligation.
