Endometrial Ablation? - Chicago,IL

Hi Moms - have any of you had this procedure? I'm having a D&C due to polyps and doctor recommended the ablation to stop my periods completely and nearly rule out the chance that I'll develop any more polyps (I'm peri-menopausal so this has no reproductive repercussions). The ablation is optional but seems like a good idea since w/o it the chances that I'll have polyps again is significant. Which would mean another D&C or worse: something pre/cancerous. Just can't find if there's any reason to not do this - any complications, things that happen down the road, etc. I've asked my doctor and gotten some feedback but I always feel like it's so one-sided or guarded for legal reasons. Just curious if any of you have anything to add. I'm leaning toward having the procedure but just feel I'd like as much info as possible before electing to have it. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I had it seven years ago to stop periods from hell - cycling every two weeks, cramps so bad I doubled over and vomited, flooding like the Nile in springtime. The only thing I regret about it is that I didn't know it existed sooner.
I had no complications whatsoever, other than very mild cramping for a couple of days after. Since then, no periods, not even light discharge, no PMS, no chance of getting pregnant - win, win, win. And now I can wear my fancy undies without worrying about them getting bloodstained.

I had it done 3.5 years ago & I've been really happy that I did. I was having really heavy, really painful, nasty irregular periods with little time between them. So for me, it's been a Godsend. The only thing was I didn't have a clue when I was "through" menopause, because my periods had stopped. So I had a hormone test about when I thought maybe I was done & I was. I now use a progesterone cream 3 weeks of the month & take a few supplements, & I don't have any "menopausal" type symptoms anymore, except vaginal dryness, which there are creams for.

I have not had it but two of my friends have and both have been pretty pleased with it. I remember one friend saying she no longer wears fancy undies, primarily thongs, anymore because she will have occassional discharge so she makes sure to have a thin liner on pretty much daily. I do'nt know if that is still an ongoing issue but something I could certainly adjust to! Either way, I recall both were extremely satisfied with the procedure and had no significant side effects. Best of luck N..

I had this done 3 years ago and had a hysterectomy last spring. I would have the hysterectomy done period. It was a little discouraging to have it so soon after ablation. It took 3-4 months before I was period free. I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy and left one ovary. My other ovary had adhered to the uterus. I had very little pain and recovery was about 4 months before I felt really good. With the ablation I had cramping the first couple of days and then pretty much back to normal. I was very disappointed when I still had periods after, but they did go completely away.

Feel free to pm me with specific questions if you'd like.

Blessings!

When I had my tubes lazored I was told no side effects. I should have searched side effects of lazor eblasion (sp). I know its not the same procedure you had done but I would really search the internet for the side effects. Had I done that before I might reconsider doing that! The one friend I know who has had it has had multipul operations. We kindly joke and say she is the walking game of " operation" its all minor and I am not sure if they are all connected but your body is suppose to function a certian way. I would also research what causes polyps and natural treatments to cure your body of polyps. Might be worth the try. Sometimes natural remidies work some times not. Do you have a time frame which you could play with it a bit to see if a less avasive soloution would work for you ?

If this is to prevent something pre/cancerous are you sure this is the way to go as oppose to a hysterectomy?
My understanding is the ablation works for some but for others they still end up doing a hysterectomy afterward anyway.

My SIL had it vs the hysterectomy when I choose complete hysterectomy 10 yrs ago.

My surgery was the best thing I ever did for myself! Never felt or looked better!! Never looked back .

My SIL is now scheduled for hysterectomy in April, after issues with her ablation about 10 yrs ago.

She could have felt much better if she had just completed everything at once at that time and she regrets that she didn't go through with full on surgery.

Feel free to PM me. Hystersisters.com is helpful as well

Best wishes to you.
