Endocrinologist and Vertigo

Take you son to see a Pediatric Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) specialist. My husband was diagnosed with Miener's Disease which is a problem with the inner ear. There are tests that the ENT can perform.

When he has an episode, his ears start ringing, he gets vertigo, vomits, can't stand strait, and can't speak correctly. He basically sleeps for 2 days til the spell passes. He has medicine that he carries with him on his keychain so that as soon as he feel an episode coming he's ready. The medicine helps keep the symptoms at bay.

An endocrinologist takes care of things that involve the Endocrine System .("The endocrine system is instrumental in regulating mood, growth and development, tissue function, and metabolism, as well as sexual function and reproductive processes").
I'm not sure what role an Endocrinologist would play for someone with vertigo, I would think you would want to see and ENT (Otolaryngologist) for vertigo. And yes, vertigo will most definitely make you vomit. It causes dizziness and throws off your equilibrium.

Never heard of a child with vertigo.
But you need to take your child to the Doctor.
Do not guess at this.
MANY things, can cause puking and dizziness and inability to walk straight.
MANY things.
SO it is best to get your child, properly diagnosed, from a Doctor.
Even a concussion, can cause those symptoms. For example.

I have Vertigo. It does make you so dizzy that you want to puke. Your son could have a lot of fluid on his ear drums though instead of vertigo. He may need an antibiotic or tubes put in instead. I go to an ENT (ear, nose, throat) for Vertigo. An Endoc is for your glands and any hormone imbalances. I would take your son asap to an ENT and have tests done. it is an imblance in your inner ear and it is horrible. Take him just to be safe.

I am with the others that an ENT could diagnose vertigo. I have vertigo that developed with my pregnancy 4 years ago. To my surprise, my mother informed me that my Grandmother, she (My mother), my aunt (mothers sister) and great grandmother (mom's grandma) ALL had vertigo that developed through pregnancy. With much of their giggles, apparently, it is something that runs with the women on my Mom's side of the family...(it doesnt go away, BTW, I still get dizzy on stairs, flipping my hair into a towel, etc)
Perhaps look into your family history. You never know unless you ask!!!

P.S. Just in case someone is wondering, my sister has vertigo and has never had a child. Perhaps it just runs in the genes and pregnancy irritates it!!! (strangely, no men have it)
P.S.S. As far as vomiting...I only got nausious while pregnant...never threw up.

Start with pediatrician and then next would be ENT. After ENT if there is still no idea you go to a neurologist. Endocrinologists usually deal with auto immune diseases like diabetes and thyroid diseases.

Vertigo is an inner ear disturbance ( there are little hairs and fluid in our inner ears) and if they're not in sync, this can cause vertigo (where the room seems like it's spinning) and nausea/vomiting. Yeah, I get it it sometimes and there's nothing worse! It's like a hangover without the drinking! I would recommend that you take your son to an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) doc. There are medications that can help him. I've also heard that a chiropractor can help. Good Luck!

I see an Endocrinologist because I have constant migraines. This does cause me to have vertigo.

I cannot stand up with my eyes closed without falling over. I have always been on the clumsy side, but with the vertigo, there are times when it really feels like the building I am in is shaking as though there is an earthquake.

The vertigo and vomiting can be caused by many different things. Even inner ear problems.. Optical problems...

An Endocrinologist is probably just one of the few doctors that will help your son figure out what is going on with him..

My son is 3 years old (today!!!) and was FINALLY diagnosed with vertigo several months ago.
When he was 19months he would have what we would call attacks where he would drop to the floor. Still conscious, no other symptoms, other than he looked scared. If he was holding our hand walking, he would squeeze it tightly, drop to the floor and sometimes cry. We thought he was having seizures. After spending a week at Rainbow Babies, undergoing every test known to man, we left undiagnosed. 6 months after that, it happened again and would approximately every 6 months (we have still not figured out the timing or what causes it). They would make him still drop to the ground or grasp on very tightly, and now very sick, throwing up and refusing to eat/drink.
Finally, at Fairview Hosp Peds ER he was evaluated by a fantastic neurologist. We gave him his history and I desperately asked if he knew what was wrong with our son. He said yes, took my sons head between his hands while laying down and slowly moved his head back and forth, left and right. It brought on an 'attack' and that is when he was diagnosed with vertigo. There are thankfully no abnormalities in his ears/canals and nothing was found physically that causes them. We still don't know why or what triggers them in him, but the neurologist told us that they will most likely develop into migraines as he gets older (migraines run in my husbands side of the family). He does not take any regular medication, but we do have Zofran (anti nausea) and Antivert (prevents dizziness) on hand so that we do not have to run to the ER each time that he has an episode.
I'm not sure how old your son is, but maybe try the head moving test and see how he reacts. And I would totally refer you to our neurologist, but it might be a bit of a drive!

Yes, vertigo can cause vomiting.

But tell his doc about it, anyway, to be safe.
