Electronic Nasal Aspirators-Has Anyone Used Them?

My 22 month old freaks out when I try to use our bulb nasal aspirator. Today, he started screaming and crying as soon as he saw it in my hand. Has anyone used the electronic ones and do they work better?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your input! We decided to stick with the saline spray when he's congested and try to teach him to blow his nose. :0)

At 22 months, you don't need to be using any kind of aspirator. A child that old will just breathe through his/her mouth to get air if the nose is blocked. Aspirators are very unpleasant. I would just not do anything.

I never used those on my kids except for when they were newborns. Beyond that, I only used saline drops. Try saline drops instead of the aspirator, I didn't even know there was any such torture device as an electronic one! I mean really, have you tried those on yourself? It sucks! If I was him I'd scream and cry too.

He may be afraid of it because it hurts.

Our Pediatrician said: do not use nasal aspirators too much, because, it can abrade the inside of the nose. And that causes pain.

An electronic nasal aspirator sounds scary to me and I am an adult. Not sure what they look like, sound like or do but I would think my kids would run for the hills if I approached them with it.

Yes, we use the electronic one. My son is chronically congested and the pediatrician has told us that he HAS to clear his mucous or he will get an ear infection. He really hated the bulb one and didn't like this one either. The upside to it is that it's faster. We haven't had to use it in a year or so because it was motivation for him to learn to blow his nose, but it did work especially if you use it in conjunction with the saline drops.

A friend of mine swears by them, but I don't think they have enough suction.

I use a saline mist and a Baby Comfynose (which is similar to the Nosefrida). It sounds kinda gross, but it's totally not...and the suction is awesome. Plus, it doesn't go IN to the nose so it's gentler on the membranes. My 6 month old HATED the bulb aspirator and she is totally fine with the Baby Comfynose. She actually even giggled the other day when I used it. :)

I bought one when my baby was little and it was a waste of money. My experience, it didn't have enough suction power and it is loud! The old fashioned ones from the hospital are the best imo.

A friend recommended me this NOSEFRIDA and I think it is definitely the best nasal aspirator.

It works great! You can read the Amazon reviews. It is much better than the bulb aspirators. It is kind of gross to think that you are sucking nasal discharge, but with the filters it is ok. I purchased also extra filters so you can change them after you use them. It is a really great product.
