How far past the expiration date would you think eggs are good for?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the info Wolfgang. I made potato salad since they were in the pot. And no one is sick so I guess they were okay. The date was Feb 17.

Dear L G:
Given the price of eggs, I would toss them afterwards, too. But here's a rule of thumb: Put each egg into a large cup of water. If it floats, it's over with. If it stands up on the bottom, it is borderline. If it lays mostly sideways, it's good.

No guarantees, but when eggs rot the gas on one side of the egg expands and makes it come up to the surface.

Regards,
W.

Hi, I used to raise chickens and one trick that we used to do to make sure eggs where still good no matter how long you have had them was to fill a glass with water not all the way but take the egg and with a spoon place it in the glass if it floats then throw away because you have got a rotten egg if it sinks still good.

Hope this helps!

I don't use them if they are more than a few days past the date. It's just not worth the risk of having food poisoning. "when in doubt throw it out"

Whatever you do with the eggs, don't toss the shell. Use the empty eggshell for cascorones (confetti eggs). Break open just the top and peel the shell open enough to pour out the raw eggs. Rinse and air dry. Fill with purchased confetti and cover the opening by glueing a small piece of tissue paper over it. When you (or your kids) break one over someone's head be sure to crush it with your hand as you do it. In other words, don't hurt someone by bashing the person in the head with an egg!
