Eczema Relief

Has anyone tried any of the herbal/natural remedies for eczema? Please NO Arbonne or Melaleuca. I've tried both of those and they actually made my 2 year old's skin worse! She reacts to substances in those products. I've also used Avon Skin So Soft, which gave some improvement. I've been searching the internet and some of the creams have interesting and bold claims. I just wondered if anyone had actually tried them before I ordered. We've also used Clear E Skin Cream, Elidel and steriod creams. I've changed to organic sunscreens which helps prevent an all over reaction. We're working with an allergist to determine the cause but I'd love to stop my daughter's suffering!

My daughter suffers from eczema as well as allergies. I did some research and eliminated dairy products from her diet and have found that it helps tremendously. She has not had a flare-up in over a year.

I'm about to try raw milk as I've also read that it has tremendous benefits for those who suffer with allergies. You can read the following article for more info if you like... http://v.mercola.com/blogs/public_blog/Is-Raw-Milk-Right-....

Best wishes to you.

M.,
My 4 year old is allergic to sunscreen and we have tried about every sunscreen there is...paba-free, all organic...you name it! We finally found Coppertone does not make her react. Her reactions are pretty severe and they itch and are horrible. The only thing that gives her any relief is Aquaphor. It says it's for babies but it works wonders for us. We love it and it has worked better than Elidel or the steriod creams we've tried. Good luck!

I have been having the best results with CeraVE in the lotion/skin care dept at Walgreens.(12.99) It was recommended by the Phamacy Dept. Do this with Neosporine and apply several times a day.

We bought FreeDerm off of the internet after our daycare recommended it. They had another child with bad excema and it worked for him. We tried it and also had great results. I remember taking it into my ped's office and asking if it was safe and they said it was. We used it for a long time and loved it. Thankfully, we don't need it anymore and her excema has mostly cleared. She just has little spots that come up now and then. Good Luck- we also had poor results with standard treatments- Aquafor made her red and bumpy all over, which totally suprised her doc. He said he had never heard of anyone reacting to it before. Also be careful with sunscreen this summer. My daughter reacts to alot of brands. I just use plain zinc oxide on her now.

My 8 year old son had eczema so bad it covered him from his elbows where red whelps seeped and bled up across his arms and shoulders and up his neck as it began to reach his eyelids I got frantic. There is an allergy treatment called NAET they have a website www.NAET.org. The treatments seem a little strange but are completely non invasive usually given by a Chiropractor or Acupuncturist we discovered his allergies(milk was a big one) and treated them. That was Feb of this year and he can now eat whatever he wants and there is no eczema. I highly recommend it.

Have you had your child checked for food allergies? Mine had eczema too and I used Aquaphor, which you can buy at the drug store over the counter or try the very helpful people at Whole Foods- they always have great products. But back to food allergies, I would research that as mine had milk and wheat allergies and once I changed their diest, the eczema went away. It is trial and error, listen to your mother's instinct and be patient. It takes a couple of weeks to get food out of your system I found, so you may not see changes over night. I found the following book very helpful : Is This Your Child? by Doris Rapp, M.D.

Creams will never fix the problem, M., no matter what kind they are. Eczema is a food intolerance problem. There was a recent big article about the connection to food in the Dallas Child magazine. Did you see it?

You need testing. I suggest www.enterolab.com. This is a lab in Plano that does stool testing, the best testing for this kind of problem. Don't bother with skin scratch or blood testing. They are invasive for a poor little, already irritated 2 year old and the results are unreliable.

Order test kit online. No physician referral needed. Send in the specimen. They email you the results. EASY!!! Gluten and dairy are the most likely culprits, with soy as a third runner up. Your pediatrician is likely ill-educated, as most conventional MDs, about food intolerances, since they learn nothing about food in med school.

Take matters into your own hands and help your child heal! Creams will never do that.

Good luck!

Hi - I've had eczema all my life. You probably know by now to use fragrant free lotions, like Cetaphil. Also wash her clothes in fragrance free detergent and don't use dryer sheets that have perfume. That might help. Something I recently started using is pycnogenol. I read about it in the newspaper. I don't know if your baby is old enough but it comes in a capsule so you could pull it apart and use it that way. A lot of people swear that this has cured their eczema. I just started using it and so far, I see some improvement but I just started using it. Good luck!

I think it is great that you are trying to determine the cause. Lavender oil is very good for skin issues and also soothing. I buy the essential oil and put a few drops in a warm bath and it helps a lot.

My daughter and I both have eczema. We learned that skin issues say that your liver isn't processing everything the way it is supposed to. So we both take burbur and parsley. I take 8 drops about 10 times a day. For my daughter I give her 4 drops about 3-4 times a day (my daughter is 21 months). My daughter's has completely disappeared!
http://www.herbalremedies.com/burbur-detox.html This is the brand I use.
I love that it is all natural and I don't have to worry about putting more chemicals into my daughter's body.

Try getting your daughter off of all dairy and wheat. Substitute with goat's milk and rice products--this step is very important. At the same time give her 1-2 tablespoons of high quality evening primrose oil per day (start with 1 then work up to 2. She could have slight diarrhea while she's getting used to it) and 1 teaspoon of cod liver oil. Both these oils come in good tasting formulas. I recommend Carlson's brand for the cod liver oil. Ask at Whole Foods which brand is best fo the evening primrose. You need to treat this skin condition from the inside out. Most, if not all, skin conditions are a response to an allergic reaction or immune response to something taken internally or injected (i.e. vaccine reaction). Which brings me to my next point, has she gotten worse since her last boosters? You may want to try an alternative vaccine schedule if so. Especially if she's also having some bowel issues as well. Go to www.generationrescue.com for info on a great alternative schedule that you can talk to your pedi about. Good luck!

Hello my son had this growing up, we removed milk products. Both my husband and son were also intolerant to the whey and protein of the milk. Once the products were out of our diets, a huge improvement was annointed upon them. We introduced raw milk over a year ago and do not have any complications. If you are seeking help from an allergist, i'm sure he will talk about wheat and corn as well. Also check into the laundry soap you are using and also bathing soap. Praying that the Father will guide you.

*Non-comedogenic

If interested, I could get you a trial size to try.

Good luck,

Have your child tested for Celiac Disease. Do not test through blood work as it is not accurate in the US.

Try looking up Enterolab.com and read their website.

I hope your allergist is able to help you determine the source of your daughters skin problems - I just wanted to add that reaction trumps a test. If your allergist does a blood test for food allergies - your dd may come up "negative" b/c the blood test only measure IGE mediated responses. Gastro and skin reactions cannot be measure on a blood test. There is a skin prick test which is more uncomfortable, but more accurate for skin reactions.

That being said, my dd had horrid eczema (she was allergic to milk) and my 3 yr old neice who is staying w/ me for the summer also has eczema (also allergic to milk) -- w/ my dd, we tried nearly every expensive lotion on the market (this was 9 years ago - she's 11 now) -- finally we came across aveeno - and that worked better than everything else!! The oatmeal in it helped her not to itch and helped "calm" her skin! She still has issues, not nearly as bad as she did when she was 2, so she uses an olive oil lotion I bought from Avon -- the olive oil lotion is awesome and works so great for her! I have been using it (and Aveeno) on my 2 yr old neice and it has really helped! Not to mention it's a lot cheaper than many of the "speciality" products.

Good luck to you!

I have and both my sons have eczema. Although we've used Elidel and I'm just not a fan. We have switched to an all natural soap by Lush. Olive Branch. Its made with grape leaf extract and other natural oils. It has completely stopped the itching for all of us. I'm a big fan. There is a Lush store in Northpark Mall and you can find them on the web at www.lush.com

I used absolutely the plainest white dove bar for my daughter when she had in at age 2. I also occasionally gave her baths using aveeno oatmeal bath packs. Very soothing for her. I used johnsons baby shampoo, but wrapped her in a towel to keep it from rinsing over her skin when we washed her hair. I had a lotion I just gave away to a friend whose son has it. I think it was called Lotrimin. By age three my baby girl was fine, but her son is 6 and it is just as bad as ever.

I would have your daughter tested for allergies to find out, first, what is causing the eczema. If you find out what they are allergic to, remove from their diet/ environment, it would possibly clear up. (I use to be a testing specialist for a large National Lab and my job what to go around and educated Pediatricians on this. The test Immunocap is a simple blood draw and requires no awful skin prick testing). Check it out at www.isitallergy.com. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have a client who used my arbonne for her childs eczema and he had the same bad reaction. Turns out he was allergic to sunflower seeds and that was the oil used in our baby products. I now recommend all my clients to make sure they have had the allergies tested before trying any new products. :) M.
